I came across this questions from curious kids. They ask why we can’t just put trash in a volcano and burn it up? There are many good reasons not to do this. Not everything can burn at volcano temperatures. Also, some materials would cause pollution if burned. The job would be dangerous as well, and indigenous people consider volcanoes sacred. So there you have the answers.

In some counteries, they do burn their trash (when it's safe to do so), but yeah. Not everything is burnable. Although at the temps of a volcano, I don't think that would aply. You'd never get close enough to one, anyway, unless it was dorment.

Hmmm, never thought about it causing pollution but if I'm not mistaken volcanoes usually do cause pollution, don't they?

Well, when plastic and other things like that are burned, they make vog, or volcano smog.

It would cost a fortune to bring the trash up to the top of a volcano to burn it. Of course trash would cause pollution.

Curious kids sometimes baffle us with their questions. But we teachers should give them reasonable answers as you have done so well.

Probably a kid was curious why it is so hard to get rid of trash.
