Dinner Out on a Diet

United States
January 7, 2022 9:53pm CST
Every Friday night my husband and I like to go out to dinner at a restaurant together, just the two of us. We have an appetizer that we share, 1 entree each, and share a dessert. Tonight was the first time I have gone out to eat on this current low-carb no sugar diet I have been on. He ordered a hot soft pretzel and had to eat it by himself because I can't have carbs. I ordered a yummy vegetable soup instead. For our main entrees, we each had salmon, and I had carrots and a spinach salad with mine. He had macaroni and cheese and bacon-wrapped Brussel sprouts. (He is not on a diet!) We skipped dessert. It was nice to know I could still go out to dinner and enjoy it even if I am on a diet. Do you go on date nights with your significant other?

@Kouponkaren I am surprised that the restaurants haven't closed with all the cases in the U.S..

@marlina Ours were in 2020, but since last Spring, when people started getting vaccinated, restaurants have opened up again. The biggest challenge for restaurants is with so many people getting Covid, they have a hard time staying open because a lot of their staff is sick.

We do occasionally but it's not a set thing. I like the way you used to do it with sharing courses.

@Kouponkaren We eat a lot less nowadays so we could often share a course and still feel satisfied.

@JudyEv It cuts the number of calories we are consuming in half, for those 2 courses anyway. We will get back to it once I get down to where I need to be weight-wise.

What was wrong with the bacon wrapped Brussel sprouts? They aren't carby.

@snowy22315 I don't eat bacon. Too much fat and I haven't eaten pork in about 4 years. It's not part of the diet, just a personal choice. Between the fat content and salt content, I think bacon is one of the very worst foods anyone can eat.

I do not go on date nights with a female friend due to the harsh economy problems.

@Kouponkaren Help yourself. I wonder if you can have a monopoly on a phrase!

No. Not really. He wanted to when we first started dating, but he's happy just to be home.

@kouponkaren I find restaurants just unpleasant now - we used go regularly. We walk a lot.

@xFiacre That's a nice way to spend time together because it's healthy and you can have great conversations while walking.
