I Tried Melatonin and Loved it!

Yesterday I was worried about a medical issue and it was on my mind as I went to bed last night. After reading a bit and still feeling unsettled, I decided to try Melatonin for the first time. Although it didn't help me fall asleep as quickly as I had expected, while I was in between being awake and actually asleep, I felt VERY relaxed. When those anxious thoughts popped into my head, I found myself saying in my head, "Yeah, but who cares right now!" I woke up this morning a little bit groggy, which is normal for me anyway. Once I had coffee and breakfast, I was fine. Whoo hoo, I feel great after a good night's sleep. Did you get a good night's sleep last night?

Melatonin doesn’t make you go to sleep it just helps you sleep better. Our bodies actually make melatonin on it’s one naturally which is why you can only take melatonin a few nights a week back to back. I slept good because like normal I took my sleep aids which do make me sleep sooner and helps me sleep longer

@ShyBear88 That probably explains why I didn't fall asleep right away, but it made me feel so relaxed and cozy I really didn't care. I was just enjoying that feeling. What kind of sleep aids do you take? I take magnesium and chamomile tea before bed but they haven't been working lately for me.

@Kouponkaren just every day store brand. I get targets brand the most often they are purple bills. I take two it has the same ingredients as Vicks and zzzquil to make you sleepy. It takes roughly 30 minutes to kick in. It’s non addicted which is nice. The only time I do take them is if I do cold medicine that has sleep stuff in it.

@ShyBear88 Oh maybe I should try Zyquil? I wanted to try melatonin because it's supposed to be natural ingredients.

I didn’t. I kept on tossing and turning. Maybe, Melatonin will help me feel relaxed, too.

@Kouponkaren My fave currently, although on the expesnive side is ZZZquill pure Z's. It has a propreitary herbal blend, with a bit of melatonin. If you take that, I am sure you will sleep like a baby.

@snowy22315 I am curious about your "help." Would you mind sharing what helps you? I found out I can't take melatonin every night.

@kouponkaren I haven’t had a full night’s sleep since May 1986 when we started having babies. That just wrecked sleep permanently, even though we have only one out of five left at home and she’s 20.

@xFiacre Ugh, that's awful. I am surprised that your body hasn't adjusted by now. I am pretty sure your 20-year-old isn't waking you up in the middle of the night to be fed or for a diaper change. Or is she? (On the fed part)

@Kouponkaren No, she’s very well organised! It’s a habit hard to break, sleeping lightly in case a child weakens in the night needing help. Now even the plaintive cry of a tiny bird outside sets me off.

Maybe I'd need to take melatonin. I could do with a good night's sleep.

@JudyEv You should probably ask your doctor first but I am telling you, it did wonders for me.

@Kouponkaren I did that exact thing not too long ago. It seems like we take turns with the no sleeping here. I have to say my hubby gets it more than I do with the nerve ending pains.

@kareng At least you were able to go back to sleep. I usually can, but last week I woke up at 5:30 and just laid there for hours not sleeping. Now that was frustrating!

I would like to do that, but I'm afraid It would be difficult for me to wake up. I have problems waking up from a deep sleep so I avoid taking in sleep-enhancers. But I did get a good night sleep last night. Thank you.

@Jenaisle It's probably smart of you to stay away from it then. I know of 3 people who have taken it and it makes them groggy all day the next day.

Melatonin is supposed to regulate the sleep cycle and help you sleep. I hope it keeps working.

@TheHorse Thanks but I have ben reading more about it and it says not to take it every night. Bummer. I was really looking forward to another good night's sleep. I suppose I can take it a few nights in a row, but I have a doctor's appt on Tuesday so I will run it by her first. She did give me a verbal okay to take it, but nothing more than that since the message came from her nurse.

That's wonderful you slept well last night. It makes such a difference. I usually take an over the counter generic Unisom pill and most of the time it works. I recently tried Qunol Sleep Support 5 with Melatonin, L-Theanine, Valerian Root, GABA, and Ashwagandha. It kind of helped, but I'm not sure about the side effects.
