Waiting for the Snow

United States
January 15, 2022 2:49pm CST
I am so excited I feel like a kid at Christmas. We are supposed to get a storm starting between 5 pm and 8 pm tonight. It is supposed to bring up to 4 inches of snow, wind, and ice. I am not that thrilled about the ice and wind because it can knock the trees down in our community and usually does. But I LOVE snow and am very excited to see that. It is so beautiful when it is snowing and the outside is so peaceful and quiet, especially as the snow falls at night. The power may go out, which is always an adventure. Are you expecting snow this weekend in your neck of the woods?

We started getting snow at 3 am. We're supposed to have about a foot before it stops Sunday morning. You can have it all... Snow falling at 3 am. Photo is mine.

@Kouponkaren No, we don't lose electricity for snow. Only for drunk semi drivers who take out the power lines. (That happened this past summer. We lost power for about four hours while the pole was replaced. We're on the same lines as the local hospital so they try to keep power going to it.)

@DaddyEvil Oh, then you are very fortunate to be on that line. And 4 hours isn't too long a time to lose power. We live in the mountains about 1,800 feet up on a ridge. We sometimes lose power for 3 - 5 days!

@DaddyEvil Oh yes, send it over. We are still waiting. I love snow, and the ice is pretty on the trees. The losing electricity part is what I don't like. Have you lost electricity?

The weatherman says there will be snow in my area. I am not sure how much will stick on the ground. It is going to stay above 32 degrees tonight.

@Scrapper88 Well, you never know with those weathermen. Sometimes they are right on with their forecasts, and sometimes they're way off. Time will tell I guess.

@JudyEv It's snowing very lightly...just a bit more than flurries so even though it is snowing for a long time, we don't have very much on the ground. I think it's up to 2 inches.

I miss snow. We don't get it in LA outside of some freak flurries that don't stick. Fortunately for me I live on the East side of LA county within two hours of Big Bear where there's enough snow for ski slopes and everything. Sometimes I drive up for a few hours just to play in the fluff, remember that I hate being cold and flee back down to where the palm trees live, lol.

@akruser13 So I take it you didn't grow up in the LA area? I am originally from New England so snow was a real treat in the winter, especially when school would be canceled.

@akruser13 Yeah, I learned a long time ago that I could never live in Washington state due to all the rain they receive. We get a lot more rain here in GA than I expected. Rain day after day really depresses me.

@Kouponkaren No, I grew up in Virginia mostly, then spent several years up north in WA state. It was too rainy and gloomy up there so I fled to where the sun lives, lol.

@kaylachan My husband has a good friend who lives in Sarasota Florida and he is always hoping for rain. I guess it doesn't rain much in Florida? I would hate that. But then again, I could never live in Washington state because I hear it rains a LOT there. I guess I like a happy medium.

I live in a place where it doesn't always snow but we got a foot or more over three days starting Christmas Eve. It's all melted away now. I grew up in Minnesota and I get excited when snow threatens here. We're back into the 50's and rain is predicted. I hope you get the snow you're hoping for. The wind and ice, not so much

@Vikingswest1 Aw, so you got a white Christmas? Good for you. I hope you didn't have to travel anywhere in it over the holidays?

@Kouponkaren Nope. It took a week before plows came by curb to curb. I don't think I left the house once in three weeks.

Yes they are predicting snow once again for us early Sunday. It will be the third time this month. Not a common occurrence here. But I love it too.

@CarolDM Wow, we aren't that far from each other and we only got one teeny tiny dusting so far. Send some our way, please. I am still waiting tonight! Tomorrow is supposed to be the worst of the storm though.
