Well, aren’t we kissing to be clever? (That’s the name of the first Culture Club album, if you’re interested….or even if you aren’t! ) It’s time to get the kisses out for Valentine’s Day, given that we’re just 30 days away! To kick off the monthlong countdown of songs with “kiss” in the title here’s what everyone wants…..country music. Always Late (With Your Kisses) - Lefty Frizzell William “Lefty” Frizzell was one of the best singers of the 1950s. He and others, like Hank Williams, Ray Price, Carl Smith, and Eddy Arnold, ushered in the golden age of country music. He was a talented songwriter, and he had that distinctive voice that is often imitated but never duplicated (as Moe Bandy sang in “Yesterday Once More,” “there’s a lot of Leftys now with different names”). And he was gone by the age of 48, the victim of a stroke and hard, hard living. Oh, what a legacy of music he left. If you’re wondering, his Bear Family box set is twelve CDs big. This was one of his early hits. It’s been covered a number of times, including once in the late 80s by Dwight Yoakam. Nothing beats the original. Always Late (With Your Kisses) Written by Lefty Frizzell and Blackie Crawford Recorded by Lefty Frizzell From Listen to Lefty, 1951 How long do you think I can wait:

That became Lefty’s “signature sound” riff. Lots of singers had them back then, like Hank Thompson and Ernest Tubb. There’s a “riff” that you automatically associate with them.
