I just stumbled across an interview with Val McDermid, the well-known and best-selling writer of crime fiction, in an old magazine. It discussed her life and how she pursued her dream of becoming a writer. (In case anyone else is interested, her biography on her own website tells a similar story What tickled me though is that she has recently got together with other writers of crime fiction to form a rock band called - wait for it - the ‘Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers’. They play covers of classic rock songs or, in their own words, “Murder songs for fun” Love it. https://funlovincrimewriters.com/about/ All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2022.

@MALUSE I haven't. I don't often read crime fiction, and if I do read more than one from the same author I often find them a bit formulaic and 'samey'. What were hers like?

I often read non-fiction. I do read other genres occasionally but it tends to be only one now and then.

Her name sounds familiar but I haven't read anything she's written. Maybe I know the name because sometimes other writers, in their books, will mention what their character is reading and I don't always recognise the name.

I suppose writing bloody murder all day can wear a bit thin, but what have rock songs done to them!
