Nasty Stuff is Back

Boise is getting it again. Not a winter goes by that we don't get this stuff. What is it? Inversion. It is when warm air is trapped over the top of cold air. Pollution or moisture or whatever gets trapped below the warm layer. Ya see when warm air sweeps over the area and the cold air, that is already permeating the area, drains into the valley, it's even worse when there is snow on the ground. The cold air sinks down and the warm air comes over the top and the cold air is trapped. It makes the sky look like it's going to rain and it stays rather cold for days. Grey and gloomy. But, no rain and no wind to blow this inversion out of here. Sometimes when you are outside you can smell the nasty stuff that is caught in the inversion. It is part of the joy of living in a valley. It's not pleasant.
