Day 221 Psalm 119 Psalm 119:121 AIN. I have done judgment and justice; leave me not to my oppressors. 122 Be surety for Your servant for good; let not the proud oppress me. 123 My eyes fail for Your salvation, and for the word of Your righteousness. 124 Deal with Your servant according unto Your mercy and teach me Your statutes. 125 I am Your servant; give me understanding, that I may know Your testimonies. 126 It is time for You, LORD, to work; for they made void Your law. 127 Therefore, I love Your commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. 128 Therefore, I esteem all Your precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way. Have you pleaded your cause, knowing you did everything right only to have people stand against you? The psalmist pled his case to God. He showed Him how faithful he was in everything he did. He prayed for God to help him against those who came against him. As Christians, you pray when you’re in trouble, when people come against you, your plans, and your ideas. You make a case for yourself, hoping God will work on your behalf. How often does God hear you pray only when you’re in trouble? Your prayers center on you and why God should help you. When was the last time God heard you pray when you weren’t in trouble? When was the last time you opened God’s Word on your own and not in a church setting? The psalmist showed God his faithfulness in studying God’s Word, bringing justice to those who came to him and asking for an understanding of God’s laws. He wanted to know God’s heart because he loved Him. God wants to hear from you all the time. Not only when you’re in trouble. He loves it when you spend time with Him, reading and studying His Word. God doesn’t want to sit on your shelf and only come out when you need Him. His promises are yours, but only when you spend time with Him and not as an afterthought. He will defend you and come against your enemies when you make Him first in your life. Consider the people you know. You have a problem one of them can help you with, but that person hasn’t heard from you in years. Why would that person help you when you reach out to them? They wouldn’t unless they wanted to and usually there was something in it for them if they helped you. God is the same way as the person you reached out to for the first time in many years. You have no commitment with God for Him to help you. Jesus told His disciples that not everyone would go to heaven who called on Him. Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says unto me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name? And in Your name cast out devils? And in Your name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye who work iniquity. The psalmist knew God’s will for his life. He found it in spending time with Him, getting to know Him, and wanting to understand all he could about God and His Word. He knew God would help him. God will help you too when you spend time with Him, commit your life to Him, and seek to know Him. Let’s pray: Father, I want to know You. I want to know Your heart. Give me an understanding of Your Word when I spend time with You. Help me when Satan comes against me to tear me down because I spend time with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
