Comfort Food

Happy Thursday Everyone!! what can I say about today? Yesterdays warmer weather melted most of the snow on the ground. Yay!! Just in time for some overnight rain which then turned into snow. It does look pretty outside this morning and it probably won't accumulate to more than a few inches. The bad news is they don't shovel here unless the totals are above 3 inches. That means we'll probably have to do the sidewalk and driveway ourselves today. Bah humbug. Do you lean towards comfort food when the weather is bad? I do So, I have the crockpot out and will be putting together a nice beef stew for tonights dinner. I've been trying to eat healthier but when it snows it just seems to wake up my sleeping snacking monster and I start looking to indulge in things like chips, cookies and sweets in general. I'm almost finished with the scarf I'm making for my granddaughter so hopefully I can distract myself this afternoon with that. She'll be going back to college next week and she'll need the scarf for her treks back and forth to class from her apartment. What's going on with you today?

Not much waiting for some groceries to be delivered Marilyn, but with the icy roads, the DoorDash does not want to drive so we shall see. It is quite cold but not as bad as yesterday. Sorry you will most likely have to shovel..just does not seem right to me.

Hope you get your groceries. Icy roads certainly are treacherous. Our temps aren't as cold as they have been but still too cold for my liking. I'm going to wait and see if my grandson will come shovel after school today

Yeah, on these cold days, a salad or yogurt just doesn't cut it. I need something warm and carby. However, soup is pretty good to eat, and even though the store bought stuff has a ton of sodium, it is low in calories. I might try to make some homemade this weekend, if I have all the ingredients to do so.

@Marilynda1225 I don't have any dried peas or beans...and since the weather is yuk, I am not going to get any. I might be able to make a veggie soup possibly.

Homemade soup certainly is healthier than canned. I have a bag of dried split peas and a bag of lentils so I'll probably make one of those over the weekend. You hit the nail on the head when you said "warm and carby" for cold weather

@snowy22315 the one good thing about soup is you can just about throw anything in a pot and make soup. Veggie soup is always good.

I do. But there´s confort food for winter and confort food for summer. We are in summer in this part of the planet. And I yearn for barbecued chicken or baby ribs. In winter I´m the stew type.

@Marilynda1225 Same here. I don´t even cook much legumes in summer but I cook them once a week at least in winter.

You are so right about there being comfort foods for winter and comfort food for summer. I also like barbecue foods for summer but crave stews, soups and chili in winter.

I'm sure she'll love the scarf after you finish making. We tend to consume more tea and porridge during cold seasons. I love snacking on fruits and eggs. I take chips too but not often

I’m having my oil changed right now, then after lunch I’ll get my new driver’s license. Then I have someone coming over to look at my crawl space to see if it needs any repairs. I think tomato soup and grilled cheese just screams I’M FOR LUNCH ON A WINTER DAY!!!!! Beef stew is also good. Heck, just about any soup is good in winter.

You really know how to "live it up" getting your oil changed and a trip to the DMV You're right about any soup in winter but nothing goes hand in hand like grilled cheese and tomato soup. I'm addition to soup and stew I love chili on a cold snowy day too

YES, when it is so cold I feel the need to eat different food, something that warms me up and bring back the good mood of the warmer days.

It's very cold here if not like your city. Do you dig the snow yourself inside your premises? Hot soup keeps me warm in winter.

Had errands to run earlier. Back home staying warm. No snow here, just very cold, not even above freezing today. Enjoy your stew.

My ume paste.
Just a regular day. My weeds in my yard creep up in-between my brick floor, so I brew up hot water, add salt & pour it on the weeds to kill them. Was pondering going to neighborhood store, but didn't go. We get rainy weather, and when it happens, U crave ramen, so yes comfort food for weather things. No snow, just rain here in Hawaii, where I live. I'm craving, rice and sour plum called ume. It got so expensive, so got it in paste form that I'll eat tomorrow with fish.

I'm watching telly while doing MyLot at the moment. Not going shopping today. Mum is going to the little Tesco in a minute. I will have some soup for lunch that was left over from Tuesday, and tonight I'm having a vegan curry that I got from the big Tesco on Wednesday.
