Random memory #6,423. Do random memories ever pop into your head?

I think I was four-years-old. We lived in Rome (Italy, not Georgia) at the time. I believe we were in a cab. I left my stuffed dog in the cab.
When we got home, I realized I had left my stuffed dog in the cab. I started crying.
My parents (I can't remember which one) said, "It's OK. We'll buy you another one!"
That made me cry more.
They did not understand that another stuffed dog would not be MY stuffed dog, with whom I had a deep relationship.
To this day, I never "invalidate" a small child when they are upset about something. I ask them to tell me about it.
Do you have random memories from earlier days pop into your head sometimes?

I was allergic to “stuffed animals,” and there was a teddy bear in the closet under the stairs, so I’d “visit” it right after I’d gotten my allergy shot. Ah, to be four years old again…..

@TheHorse — I started at about 15 months. And that’s why I don’t have any trouble with shots today.

We lived in Italy for one year when I was little (I think I was three and then four). Sadly, I was fluent in Italian (for a 4-year-old) and forgot almost all of it. Over the years, I've visited Italy a few times, and the language did NOT come back to me. (sad face emoji).

Yes. Many a times.
Like once I felt very worried about my mother and she was so happy to see my concern.
Or about some of the mistakes which I still regret.
In positive sense, some of my college days when we used to be more into games and sports, especially cricket.
Or going with friends unplanned to watch "The Lost world (Jurassic Park 2)" on a cold and wet December evening.
I now feel that I can be a little more considerate towards my kids when they miss something.

@TheHorse
In person, I have seen hockey (Field Hockey) and Table Tennis matches.
That was during late 1980s when I wasn't even 15.

One of the memories from way back(l was about 4) l remember clearly when my two older siblings. -- 8 and 10--decided one Saturday morning to go sailing in a small boat. Dad jumped into a speedboat and was able to catch them before they reached too far on the river. We lived on an island at the time.

One of the many things that I am thankful for is very good health which includes a very good memory.
Something that gets in my way from time to time is my very good memory.
For instance, that stupid thing that happened to me when I was about this age. The other thing that went on when I was that age.
By the way, I would cry too if I left my stuffed animal behind. I'd probably cry if it happened to me today.

I have many random memories. I remember when my parents wanted to visit a places called "L'orrido di Bellano". It is deep, narrow, 15 million-year-old gorge with waterfall, accessible by a suspension bridge. I was 3 years old, I was in my Mom's arms and I cried and screamed and did not want to go inside. Now I know I suffer of claustrophobia. Mom did not want to go out, Daddy got me and brought me out.

One of the biggest advantages of being almost 28 is that memories are a thing of the past.

@TheHorse I don't know. Maybe. The next time I visit an old folks home, I'm going to ask some 40 year-olds.

Not too much. But I do try to let them have their feelings. But learn to express them right also

@TheHorse Sometimes they need help. Like Monster will say she hurts when she is very upset and sad. She is hurting in a way. But learning to say she is very sad. She definitely knows when she is angry

@wolfgirl569 I might say things like "What does it feel like when you're angry?" I might even talk about what it feels like when I'm angry.

My favorite saying has become Oh, Lord help me because as time goes on I get all kinds of memories popping in my head and some make me teary-eyed. You can imagine just enjoying a day doing your thing and suddenly there it is oh, my I remember when... Then I roll my eyes and look up and say that and go with the flow as best I can to subside the memory for a while again but now they seem to come rolling in more often SIGH

@TheHorse my stepdaughter who lives in the city of Jelgava in Latvia about a 45-minute distance from where we live in the suburbs of Riga is lucky to be living there because she say if anytime she has to be in Riga and near where we used to live she thinks right away about her dad and then me and has to pull to the side and stop crying before she continues to drive on, She cannot drive that way at all then the memories flood back,

@TheHorse I'll have memories about one of my sisters. We never got a long even as kids. She was pretty mean. I try to ignore the memories when they do pop up but I also notice a correlation between some self-esteem issues and her. It could be some of those old self-esteem issues make those come up. I'm sorry about you being misunderstood back then.

@mildredtabitha I still have an attachment to my alligator. If someone threw it out I'd be traumatized.

@TheHorse wow. That's a good souvenir from your childhood years. I found my toy piano broken when I was a kid and it broke my heart

I enjoyed this discussion and the responses very much.
Oddly, I have been having what I term 'flashback memories' quite often. I think it's partly because I have been rather stressed due to caring for a family member, and tired to the bone. I am sure I am just like everyone else in saying that I much prefer my random memories be good ones rather than ones I want to forget, but we all know how that goes.
