MyLot Cover III How Was Your Username Chosen?

United States
January 23, 2022 12:46am CST
Another old MyLot discussion recycled into a new one. This isn't anything hard. Just explain your username here. You can add how long you've had it, if someone else gave you the idea for it, if you've lost the username and created a new one by adding numbers to the old one, is it just for MyLot... You know, whatever you want to share. I have no rules and I'll give bonus points to anyone that writes two different stories about their username forcing me to choose the true one. Ok. I'll start. I lived in Minnesota. My dad and my brothers along with me, all played betting games on football. Our home team was the Minnesota Vikings. Quit that laughing in the back. I know. We would pick winners and point spreads for every NFL game. My dad would record all the picks and everyone would kick in a dollar. Sometimes we had as many as twenty people in the pool. The one with the most winners collected the kitty. I moved west in 1989. I started this same thing with new friends out here. My dad visited and saw my boards from the year before and asked about it. The start of the next season, there were my friends here and my family back there. I kept track of here and my dad kept track of things there. One hour before the first game, everyone had to call their picks in. Then my dad called me with his board and I gave him my board. When he would call every Sunday morning, I would just answer the phone with my username.

My daughter started working on WebAnswers years ago. She chose the name PrettyEvil as her online name. When I started working on WebAnswers, too, she called me DaddyEvil. I've used the name ever since.

When I was less than 2 years old, there was a popular Italian song who talked about ducks and poppies. I could not yet walk, but I sang that song all the time. My family gave me the nickname of Ducky. Some years later there was a Mallard duck in the farm o farm of my grandparents that I considered my pet. The nickname Ducky remained, as grown up I thought that LadyDuck could be a good username.

That's a great story. Your username goes back to your youth. That's pretty neat and I think it's sweet that Ducky has now grown into LadyDuck.

That's great that you have always used that name online. The two names that you chose fit well together. One is an older sounding name and the other a youthful name. A good combination.

We are Packer backers here. But no worries Viking one. lol My name came from business ventures. PorWest Distribution, PorWest Enterprises etc. It started with the distribution company attempt when I was trying to get distribution rights from Barrels of Fun which had Wisconsin distribution of a potato chip company, Poore Brothers. The company was in West Allis, Wisconsin. Thus, PorWest, or Porwest. I just for whatever reason decided to adopt the name in certain social media circles, and I have used it for many years now.

Sorry about the loss to SF. That surprised me. I spent many years in your neck of the woods but can't recall Poore Brothers chips. I'll have to look them up. Thanks for explaining how PorWest came about.

@porwest Kettle cooked chips are the best. I just learned that Poore Brothers are still around but they were originally Bob's Texas Style Chips in 1983. The Poore Brothers brand was formed after they sold out as owners of Bob's and began Poore Brothers in Arizona.

@Vikingswest1 Not even sure if Poore Brother's chips are even still around. Might be. But I am not sure. They were really good though. Had lots of flavors and were kettle cooked. I really enjoyed them.

I had a wolf for a pet when we first started doing things online. So I used wolfgirl but had to add the numbers to get one ok'ed for the place I was trying to make an account. The 569 was just a random suggestion. I have just used it ever since then.

@TheHorse MyLot was my first discussion forum and when I started here in late 2005 or early 2006, MyLot had no earnings program. It was an unfiltered discussion forum. The wild west comes to mind when I think of the early years. I had a few profiles here that were shown the door. I did the FB, Twitter and Gab thing but returned to MyLot because, like you, I enjoy it here.

I guess there's two parts to mine, lol. So Kade - I've been using it as a pen name since, well, high school. Sooooo long ago. It was the name of a dragon I put in my very first attempt at a novel (that got eaten because we were using floppy disks back then and mine got corrupted.) But I write under the name Alex Kade on my fanfics and other writing sites, and I use #Kade as my writer handle for my roleplay accounts on Twitter. It just helps remind me where I started and where I'd like to be. akruser13 is much less exciting. Obviously the a is for alex. Kruser is a play on my actual last name. And 13 is my lucky number.

You qualify for the bonus points. Twenty plus years with the same username is impressive to me. My first attempt at a novel was in several notebooks that I boxed up for moving. They never made it out of the box again. Over the course of three or four moves, the box went missing. I sat down one time to start over, but it didn't flow as easy as it did when it was initially written. Straining and struggling to recapture a storyline that was so clear in my head before. I gave up writing THAT story and began a new one. Life got in the way and it never really got started. I should really try again. I wish my username could serve as a reminder of who I was and how far I've come and how far I still had to go.

@akruser13 I think you only get one chance to write a story. If you leave it unfinished and get back to it years later, the story may be the same but the author has changed.

@Vikingswest1 I've actually attempted to rewrite that novel three times now lol. It wasn't a bad concept really, but when you grow and change your style and your own interests change. Every time I sat down to revisit it I'd realize it wasn't what I wanted anymore and start it over. I don't know if I'll try a fourth time, but I like to keep Kade as that little muse on my shoulder whispering at me that plenty of solid creative ideas are still in there wanting to get out.
