The Big Crash

Yesterday afternoon, I heard a big crash when my husband Chuck was away at the gym. I thought it sounded like giant icicles crashing down outside on our front porch. So I didn't really pay much attention.
It was actually the lower clothes rack in my closet coming unhinged from the wall due to the weight, and crashing to the floor. Chuck noticed it when he came home. So you know what I will be doing all day today! I already started but took a break for lunch.
I have 4 piles going:
1 to keep
1 to donate
1 to try on, and decide which pile they go in
1 to list on eBay
It's fun to discover clothes I have forgotten about, and also will be fun to donate stuff to a thrift store and get it out of the house.
Do you go through your clothing and donate to thrift stores or Goodwill?

@Kouponkaren I found that decluttering/reorganising/whatever actually made me feel better mentally. I felt lighter too.

@JudyEv Yes, you are right. I came up with 2 kitchen trash bags full, and 2 older gowns I had hanging in there, and I feel lighter already. I will donate them tomorrow.

I donated my old clothes to the needy last year :)

@freelancemariagrace Good for you. I do that periodically, but I also like to shop at thrift stores and often find new clothes for myself that I bring home.

Before the pandemic we send all our still good and reusable clothes to my aunt ( mom's cousin) to a province down Southern Philippines. Aunt is an elected local politician so she gives it to her poor constituents living in far flung mountainous areas, it's valuable and big deal for them.

I keep my clothes thinned out on a regular basis.

@wolfgirl569 You are smart. I have a hard time doing that. I get too busy with other things and don't make a point to do that.

@Ronrybs It was a busy day. All the piles are sorted and now we have to figure out if the rack can be fixed or if we need to buy a new one.

@Faster16 That's good. Today I went through the clothes that are too BIG for me because I lost weght, but still held on to the bigger ones for a long time. That was dumb!

Around 2 years ago we went through all our clothes and gave away a lot. It is amazing how clothes accumulate through the years.

@LeaPea2417 Yes, especially when one keeps buying new clothes they fall in move with (that would be me!)

@Kandae11 Yes, I do think that was part of the problem as I had a couple of heavy sweaters on that rack that I wore during the Christmas holidays and forgot to take down and put away.
