Getting Rid of Clutter Today!

After the big crash of my clothes rack on Sunday afternoon, I am motivated to go through my whole closet and get rid of things I no longer wear.
Some decisions are harder for me than others. Like the red bathrobe my husband gave me that I never wear, the wedding gown that I wore almost 12 years ago that due to the style I can no longer wear, and blouses that I have too many of (do I really need 4 coral colored blouses?).
So far I have 2 1/2 kitchen garbage bags full of clothing to donate.
It feels good to be getting rid of clutter. Do you like that feeling? Or are you already a neatnik with no clutter in your house?

@Kouponkaren They can get stuffed in sometimes. No wonder we lose track of what's there.

Well, believe it or not, all f those clothes came from only the bottom rack. I guess there really was too much on ut. I thought it was longer than it actually is.

@JudyEv Yes, and with a clutterhound like me, it's easy for things to get lost in the shuffle.

Hi Karen, how are you doing? I feel so much lighter when I get rid of clutter. It is such a good feeling to get rid of what I do not or no longer need.

I can understand that about struggling to give up things. It took me a long time and a move to have to do cluttering and I am still doing it. I am glad you are good.

@Kouponkaren it’s definitely a hard habit to break. So much of what I saved I have been able to use so it wasn’t wasted space really. My mother and sister hoard things badly. My husband calls me a hoarder but I’m not. He buys new things daily online so he’s worse then me I think he just doesn’t see it.

@shaggin Well, good for you. It is a process and takes time. My parents saved everything in case they needed it "someday." Apparently, I inherited that trait from both of them.

I gave away some clothes my son couldn’t wear anymore but I don’t know, I felt really sad when the person I gave them to didn’t bother to take care of them. I mean they were nice clothes, some even branded, but I saw her sons wearing them with stains and some even torn. How sad

@sol_cee Aw, that is sad. I am sorry you had to see that. I don't think I will ever see these clothes again so I won't feel bad,

@Kouponkaren I don’t have that many but I do have plenty.

@RubyHawk Well, after what happened to me, I suggest you take them out and get rid of them. I wouldn't want the rack in your closet to fall down like mine did.

@freelancewritermariagrace In our house, getting rid of my clutter relieves my husband's stress and anxiety! LOL! No joke. He hates clutter.

It is the absolute best feeling to free yourself of things and also clean up and help another with donations.
You have some nice things though I imagine and some sentimental as you said.

@RebeccasFarm Yes, and I am very sentimental, which means I keep accumulating things.

@marlina I love to buy clothes at thrift stores. But maybe I like buying them and getting bargains on them more than I like wearing some of them!

@kouponkaren My hoarding only goes as far as books. Can’t get rid of them. I only buy clothes if my current clothes are so full of holes that I might get arrested for indecent exposure if I went out in them.

@xFiacre I have that issue as well with books. And clothes too. Sigh...my house is full of clutter. Sometimes I think I have squirrel blood in me! I "squirrel" everything away!

Congratulations on getting rid of clutter! :-) It feels GREAT! I know clothes can be hard if it has a sentimental attachment. If it's other stuff what I did was to ask myself if I liked it on me. Somethings I liked, but I didn't like how I felt wearing them. That made it easier.

@FayeHazel Good point. Every morning lately I have been walking into my closet and saying out loud, "What is going to make me happy to wear today?" And then I usually do find something that makes me happy to wear. I should just go through everything that is left in my closet and ask myself if it will make me happy when I wear it. Thanks!

@Faster16 Yes, my husband likes it when I donate things that cause too much clutter. It makes the house feel cleaner.

@Kandae11 oops, too late. I donated it today. It is a style I can no longer wear due to some surgery I had. I asked my daughter if she wanted it and she doesn't. It made me sad to donate it, but it also makes me sad to keep it around and look at it knowing I am no longer physically the woman who wore it 13 years ago. Hopefully someone else can use it.
