First Signs of Spring

Yes, I know it’s another month and a half before spring but when I went out today I could hear crows cawing. I looked to the top of the tall trees and oodles of crows were fluttering in the tall branches.
They flew in groups from one tree to another cawing loudly to each other. They would all fly straight up to regroup then separate into smaller groups settling in the tall trees. They were fascinating. Flying up, down and around the area.
I could hear squirrels chattering but I didn’t see a one. It’s the first sign of spring I’ve seen this winter. So I know spring is coming and soon this cold winter will be on its way out.
Have you seen any signs of spring in your part of Mylot world?

That depends... would you consider 5F in the morning and 25F by late afternoon "signs of Spring"?

@RubyHawk The squirrels and bunnies have been playing in the deep snow here for the last week and a half. They aren't signs of Spring.

@DaddyEvil Well, I’m calling it signs of spring. I haven’t seen crows all winter. I wonder where they’ve been hiding. Maybe up at your place.

It's only on the elm tree and they usually appear a month or so before the chinaberry trees or the mulberry tree shows any sign of buds.
I'll have to get a picture to show you. It seems the elms start out with ugly tiny black buds that are green inside and they remain that way for almost 2 months before the leaves start to appear.

No, we're just now seeing signs of winter, actually. Our heater has been working overtime.

I think we don't have spring season here. We don't have four seasons. It's actually like getting an early summer here

No signs of spring here but I certainly would welcome one. I'm already tired of winter and I know we still have a way to go before spring arrives. Maybe it will come early this year??

@RubyHawk I'm so looking forward to warmer weather and it staying lighter longer. I hate the cold and when it gets dark so early. Thankfully it' been a little lighter later but it's still awfully cold.

@RebeccasFarm Your spring will probably be a little later since you’re further north.

We see signs of spring one day and the next it will be too cold for us. Something we can't rush, the seasons get here when they do!
Always enjoy your articles. I see and hear the squirrels do all their squirrel things!

I really don't know I have been inside now because we have had very cold and rainy weather, When I get outside I will have a look, I know that I have heard brids trilling more often now,

I never heard that cries were a sign of spring before as they will flock to road kill in any weather here. I've not seen any squirrels yet but I think I'm further north possibly than you are being in Michigan?
Our Winters last into April many years.

Not just yet. But soon. It was actually a bit weird since last week we had 60s for a couple of days, then two days of ice and sleet, and now next week we will see 60s again. I hope that puts us out the woods, but I doubt it. I have confidence April should show some improvements.
