In 1924 American pedal steel guitarist and record producer Speedy West was born in Montana. He was part of the regular Capitol Records backing band for Tennessee Ernie Ford and others. He played on Loretta Lynn's first single. West passed on in 2003. In 1941 session musician and songwriter Bobby Wood was born in Mississippi. He wrote "Half the Way" for Crystal gayle and "He Got You" for Ronnie Milsap and plays on three songs by Elvis "In the Ghetto", "Suspicious Minds" and "Always On My Mind." In 1958 Marty Robbins was at number one on the US Country chart with "The Story of My Life" written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. In 1975 Dolly Parton came out with "The Bargain Store" and it became her fifth number-one single on the country chart. In 1982 Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Barbara Mandrell, Anne Murray and The Oak Ridge Boys won awards at the American Music Awards. In 1999 Garth Brookes was at number one on the US Country Album chart with his tenth album Double Live, a two-disc live album recorded during his second world tour in 1998. In 2010 Reba McEntire was at number one on the US Country singles chart with "Consider Me Gone" It was the second single from her album Keep On Loving You. It was her 34th number one single. In 2019 Luke Combs was at number one on the US Country Album chart with his debut studio album This One's For You. Singles from the album were "Hurricane", "When It Rains It Pours", and "One Number Away".

Bobby Wood wrote some great songs. The song-writers never get as much recognition as the singers which is a bit of a shame.
