This is the Willie Mays statue at Oracle Park in San Francisco.Formerly, Oracle Park was known as AT&T Park The park is close to the water and the Bay Bridge. The statue was dedicated in 2000. Mays was one of the first black athletes to be a major baseball star. Willie Mays started with the New York Giants and moved to San Francisco with them in 1958. The statue was made by William Behrends.

I saw Mays play at an exhibition game in the late 1960's. There was a home run contest with Harmon Killebrew before the game. Mays won.
The score of the actual game escapes me but my hometown Minnesota Twins beat the SF Giants that day.
Mays stood for hours signing autographs.

I remember reading stories of Willie Mays in baseball books when I played Little League Baseball in Panama. The Say Hey Kid is one of the best baseball players who could hit for power, batting average, steal bases and play the outfield in a very good defensive manner.
