Fun Names for Children's Book Characters

United States

Yesterday I posted about a radio show I was listening to and a real person named Patty Peacock called in and won a prize. I posted about how it reminded me of a good character name for a children's book. Now I can't stop thinking about other names I could make up for a children's book. Wouldn't it be fun if this one lady named Patty Peacock started me off on a children's book writing career? Here are some I have been thinking of: Annabelle Anteater Horace Horse Mandy Manatee Octavia Oyster Petunia Pelican Walter Walrus Okay, your turn...can you think of any cute or funny names for characters in a children's book?

Betty Bat. Incidentally, I have a friend named Candice Cain and her nickname is Candy Cane. I also had a guy in my homeroom in high school named Gordon Jordon. After he graduated and left home, he changed his name to something totally different.

@kareng Betty Bat is a good one. I LOVE Candy Cane. Even Candy Cain is cute. Does she go by Candace or Candy? I can't blame poor Gordon for changing his name. Poor guy. I once went to school with a guy named John John. Seriously. Why would parents do these things to their kids?

@Kouponkaren All of her friends call her Candy. John John is bad!! That reminds me, I had a first-grade teacher named Ms. Lynn. She wanted to be called by her first name. She was young and got engaged during the year. Her fiance's last name was Lynn. So she because Ms. Lynn Lynn.

@kareng Oh no, really? Now that I wouldn't like at all. There's not even a nickname you can do with that. Like if a guy's name is Anthony Anthony, he could be called Tony Anthony, but not much you can do with Lynn Lynn!

What about Dennis the Nice? I'm not so much on kid's names but I can do better with adult villains, Devil Judge, Monster Dad, oh, I can't think of any names anymore.

@Jenaisle Okay I will keep these in mind if I ever wrote a book with an adult villain in t. But I probably won't, LOL. I like to write non-fiction. Good brainstorming though.

I have noticed that many of today's books for youngsters seem to have unusual names for the characters. I am guessing it attracts the attention of the reader

@Ronrybs Yes, and also the world is becoming more culturally aware also so I am sure that plays into main characters names as well.
