Revisiting a favourite restaurant

We went out to a Chinese restaurant tonight with friends. The restaurant is one we frequented regularly before we left to live in Donnybrook. The food is always excellent and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
We have very fond memories of the place. They employed a lot of high school students as waitstaff. An Irish lady taught them what they needed to know and over time, they became quite proficient. We got to know some of them quite well.
Being so young, they sometimes got things a bit wrong. We’d be given wine-glasses straight out of the dish-washer so they’d be warm but the plates would be cold. Vince always liked to tease them and would ask for ‘mongrel lamb’ instead of Mongolian lamb. Every time we went, he would ask for leeches and ice-cream and little Sarah would say, very politely, ‘It’s lychees, Mr Evans’.
The same Irish lady was there tonight and gave us a warm welcome. It was so nice to go back there. I’m sure we’ll have more enjoyable meals there. I’ll share more another time.
I don't have a photo of Chinese food so here's another sunset.

Pretty and I still haven't started going to restaurants again since the pandemic began but we do call our friend who owns a Chinese restaurant and ask if he'll make us some Springfield style Cashew Chicken once in a while... It's one of our favorite foods. (There's also a Mongolian restaurant in Springfield we'd both love to go to if the virus is ever brought under control. *shrug*)

@JudyEv People just don't care here if they spread the virus. Preventative measures only work as long as everyone is taking them.

@Aquitaine24 Not really although I like the sweet and sour dishes and I usually start with a prawn cocktail.

@Ronrybs Really? That's a shame. Have they plans for a new library somewhere? At least in Perth, they aren't allowed to build huge skyscrapers at the moment but I don't know how long that will last. 52 floors is the highest but approval has been given for 62 floors for a hotel. They sound very tall to me but I know they are trying to limit the number of very tall ones. They won't allow them on the beachfronts for instance as they block everyone's views.

I too like Chinese food provided its prepared well. I like their 'Ginger garlic prawn ' but I love the preparation of Wolfdrof in Kolkata and the Chinese restaurant in a small town called Sambalpur, Odisha.

Long, long ago there was a cheap and cheerful Chinese restaurant here run by a lovely lady. It was the first place I ever had Chinese food and she taught us how to use chopsticks by making us practice picking up peas! Sadly that place has gone now.

I forget about the fortune cookies, the Chinese restaurants in the US gave them, they are not Chinese.
