Friday Night Date Night

United States

Tonight is Friday night and as always my husband and I are going out on our Friday night date night. Tonight we are going to a favorite local restaurant. They were closed for two weeks and have just reopened with a new menu. The problem with new menus is that they sometimes get rid of some of our favorite standbys that we always like to order when we go. Our favorites up until now have been: a large warm pretzel that we share, fish tacos, fish and chips, and a salmon sandwich or a chicken breast sandwich. I will let you know if they got rid of any of those after our dinner. What are your favorite foods offered at restaurants in your area that you would miss if they got rid of them? Update: I am sad to announce that when we saw the new menu tonight, it no longer has the giant pretzel, the fish and chips, OR the chicken breast sandwich. They do still have the fish tacos on the menu though. I had a salmon sandwich and my husband had the hangar steak dinner and both of our meals were amazingly delicious!

I would miss the po boys that are sold at sandwich shops in the New Orleans area that went out of business many years ago.

@Deepizzaguy Ah, okay. In CT where I grew up, they called them "grinders" and in Rhode Island they call them "hoagies."

@Deepozzaguy I have never had a po boy in my life and have heard of them but don't actually know what they are.

That is the thing, menus seem to constantly change and not always for the better

@Kouponkaren I have been to a few places where they keep a core of favourite dishes and have 'guest' dishes that change regularly, perhaps monthly.

@Ronrybs That's a good idea. I think I still like the idea of a restaurant just having a very large menu to choose from so the variety comes from just trying new dishes on their already large menu. I do also like it when a restaurant has specials on certain nights.

@Ronrybs The menu at this place only changes about once every 2 years. It can get kind of boring...like enough so that we wouldn't go there every single week. I think they need to add a bit more to the menu to give us more choices. I enjoy going to restaurants where there are about 4 pages of choices. That gives a lot of variety. Then they actually never need to change the menu because there are SO many good things to choose from.

That's a bummer they got rid of your favorites but atleast they had one thing you enjoyed. I'm glad you still had a good dinner no matter what. I miss date nights my boyfriend and I haven't had a chance to have one in awhile we are due for one.

@Kouponkaren We used to do saturday night's I'm going to try to do them again but I work every Sunday so it's hard to have date night now. I have been considering Sunday night as date night when we go to our bowling league.

@Blondie2222 Better start planning it now because time can get away from us. We really like our date nights. Yes, that salmon sandwich I had last night was absolutely delicious!

That's a good question. I don't go out much, but when I do, the stuff I get is fairly standard, so it's anyone's guess, really.

@Kouponkaren That's not a bad thing. It makes life easier on you and your server if nothing else.

@kaylachan Yes, that's true. And we know what we want to order quicker than perusing a new menu.

I agree about a change of menu making a favourite restaurant maybe less so.
