My wife coded last night!

They called me when they had her back, but... OMG! They said they'd call again once they really got her stable, again. It was about 3 more hours before they had her stabilized. At that point I decided I really REALLY had to go to bed. I had taken a nap Friday afternoon, but I had barely an hour before the rehab hospital she had been in had called me. Basically, I had 10 hours of sleep in 2 days, and that's not something you should be doing with fibromyalgia. I got around 8 hours, so still not feeling perfect, but I spent about 3 hours in ICU with her, even though she was in a drug induced coma. I talked to her. I called up one of her stories on Archive of Our Own and read it to her. She seemed to calm down a bit while I was reading to her, I can hope she was listening. I talked to the ICU doctor. I talked to her nurses. I talked to the respiratory tech. I talked to anyone who'd talk to me about her. Her nephew called and I put him on speaker so he could talk to her. She had been kind of reacting to the tube and like opening her mouth in pain. But when her nephew started talking, she seemed to calm down and lean her head toward the phone. I'm getting tired people dying on me... The thing is they can't figure out what is going wrong... **sigh**

Oh no, I am so sorry you are going through this. It sounds terrible. They say that when all of the other senses aren't working, people can still hear. So it's good that you are talking to her and everyone else is talking to her. Maybe you could read from her favorite book. Or find some stories on the internet about things she would like to hear. Or if you guys are religious, maybe read to her from the Bible? If it was my husband, I would probably sing to him, which he may, or may not like, but I think I would give it a try because he has a lot of hymns he really likes. I will say a prayer for you and your wife.

I did read one of the stories she wrote to her yesterday. I'm telling you, I am not used to talking this much! I'm going over in a bit and will read her another one.

@Kouponkaren Her nephew called yesterday and I put the phone on speaker and had him talk to her. Then her niece, her nephew's ex but she is still close to her too, called and she talked to her. They were saying they needed her. When her nephew called, she really seemed to react a bit to him. Somewhat less to her niece, but the medical staff were also messing with her...

@ElicBxn Well, try to remember that your talking is probably giving comfort to your wife. If you read to her, she can at least hear your voice, and you won't have to think of too much to say. My mom was in Hospice and we talked to her a lot. When I wasn't talking to her, I held her hand and played music. I played some of her favorite songs for her. She had certain hymns that she liked so I found those on my phone and put the phone next to her on her pillow. I did sing to her a bit, but I am pretty sure she liked the music better, LOL. I am SO sorry you and your wife have to go through this.

I know this must be a hard time for you, but your wife is a fighter. One day at a time.

I hope she remembers that she's a fighter. She did seem to like hearing her nephew's voice.

Thanks Snowy. I'm kind of pedaling along. I'm not really much of good visitor, but reading to her does make sure she knows I'm there.

Me too. I know she's been kind of depressed, after not seeming to get better, in fact getting worse these last 3 months.

Thanks. I went over and stayed about 3 hours. However, I did need to talk to one of our friends, and I knew they were going to do more medical stuff with her in a few minutes.

They have lessened the blood pressure medicine, but while she's holding her own, she isn't doing much better.

@Fleura honestly? the doctors can't figure out why her blood pressure is so bad and it has been getting progressively worse for the last year, and bad enough she has been in a hospital or a rehab hospital since the first of November.

@ElicBxn I'm sorry to hear that. I'm afraid I have only come in at the middle of the story - what was her original problem?
