Appearances certainly can be deceptive!

We are all familiar with this well-known idiom, and no doubt have often met people to whom it can be applied. Maybe you have been taken in by a smartly-dressed, well-spoken individual who turns out to be a crook, or accidentally explained something to a person who you later find out is an expert on that subject. Certainly there are plenty of unassuming people who are eminent scientists, writers or inventors.
Well I recently joined our local amateur dramatic society, which is made up of all sorts of people of all ages from primary school age to pensioner. Some (like me) are new, some have been members for decades. One of the young women in the group is quite striking in appearance. I know this is going to sound awfully offensive, and obviously I would never say this to anyone who knows her in real life, but there is a phrase ‘she looks like the back of a bus’ - and I have to say that in her case this really is most fitting. In her costume she looks like a bus draped in a curtain.
But she is the most amazing dancer! I have no idea how, but she is so light on her feet, so dainty, it’s really a miracle to see! I also can’t figure out how she could be so enormous if she dances regularly, which I believe she does, but maybe it’s a medical issue. In any case once she starts to move, she’s a joy to watch.
I don’t think anyone passing her in the street would ever suspect her hidden talent. It just goes to show, you can never judge a person by their appearance.

I will bear that image in mind next time I think of having a second biscuit
