As has become a Tuesday night tradition for the missus and me, we are watching the Great British Bake Off on Netflix. We are currently one season behind. Our youngest son got my missus started watching it and she would have it on while I sat here in my recliner working on my laptop. Eventually, I got hooked on the show, too. What we like best, besides the cool creations the bakers come up with, is the congeniality shown between the contestants. We find it refreshing the way they root for each other, support each other, and wind up friends by the end of it all. These are all traits missing from any American cooking competition show I've ever seen. I am still amazed that the folks who participate in the Back Off do it mostly for fun and recognition since, as I understand it, there is no cash prize for winning. The prize is a cake plate and bragging rights. Part of what makes it fun for us is trying to guess who will be Star Baker and who will be sent off. Sometimes we guess right and other times we are surprised by the choices of the judges. If you haven't seen the show, it's well worth a viewing.

We enjoy many of the American cooking shows, but not the American cooking competition shows.

That would be a refreshing twist to see them rooting for each other

I fear the American producers would never stand for it and the typical American viewer wouldn't watch.

I've heard of the show but haven't watched it. We don't have Netflix. Mike and I are currently watching Chopped. We enjoy it on Tuesday evenings.

I like that show alot as well, and find it calming and relaxing. We need more of those types of shows in these trying times.

From what I've seen in British TV shows they are always very polite to one another, something Americans can't seem to wrap their brains around.

I don't normally watch any of these types of shows because of the spitefulness that always seems to exist between the contestants. This sounds totally different and more like my kind of show.

There's also a cooking contest here, but it's heard that it's all been decided who will win

Byy the way did you know there have since been similar shows on other skills, there's a 'sewing bee' and a 'pottery throw-down' too I think.

My partner and daughters like watching this. I find it all too stressful and can't bear it when there's some sort of disaster!
