I like my planes a bit bigger

The collage shows two more views of the yard at The Crooked Carrot. I like the plane but I wouldn’t really want to fly in it. It’s too small for my liking. Maybe it’s a one-person plane. Behind it is a line of old tractors. They all look very much the worse for wear. Smaller tractors are all the go in this area as they are better able to negotiate rows of vegetables. There is even a road sign warning of slow vehicles, by which they mean tractors and farm implements.

@JudyEv I have a cousin who has a couple of antique restored tractors and he brings them to antique tractor shows, he has won alot of ribbons and trophies over the years. It is a good way for a farmer to retire.

My brother would have loved the tractors. Despite being blind for some years before he passed away, he used to restore old tractors.

@Juliaacv Once they moved off the farm, it gave my brother something to do.

There are a lot of farmers in this area and we have those signs, too. I've been up in aircraft twice in m life. I won't be doing that again, if I can help it. (I paid for a one hour tour over Branson, Missouri, when Pretty was little. The pilot kept her amused by taking the doors off the helicopter and tipping it so I felt like I was falling out, even though I was safely strapped in. I'm scared of heights.) The second aircraft I've been in was a friend's 4 seater light airplane. He flew myself and his son around Missouri one day. It was nice.

Our small boys were offered a ride in a helicopter but I had to go with them. It was okay while we were moving along but I got a bit panicky when he just sat in midair while we looked at something.

@JudyEv I think the pilot figured out I was upset when I wouldn't talk to him after we landed. He scared the crap out of me. (And I'd told him I was scared of heights.)

That plane looks more like a toy than a actual plane someone could climb into. It's interesting how pictures can be so deceptive.

Some of the small planes have very little room for passengers - or pilots for that matter.

Crooked Carrot - interesting name!! Well supporters of Broccoli, Turnip, Radish or Pumpkins could raise an objection to this name on social media someday! That plane reminds me of some such planes used in older Bond movie stunt scenes!

@judyev main problem with these contraptions is the lack of facilities. We used to fly in small 5 seaters in the 60s in Africa and they frequently had to look for suitable landing spots for comfort breaks

@JudyEv There we’re various clearings the pilots knew we’re safe, but if zebra were grazing the pilot had to make a few low passes to get them to shift first.

@xFiacre They have to do that up north to shift kangaroos and emus off the runways.

Really? I guess that makes sense but I hadn't really thought about being able to just land somewhere for a comfort break.

I though the plane was a little radio controlled model/toy plane, and I had to stare at the photo for a a minute or two for a full perspective of its size. Even once I realized it, I would say that it is still a very small plane, and even the one pilot who could fit in there probably would be a little cramped for space.

These small planes do seem incredibly cramped for space. You wouldn't need to be claustrophobic.

I used to fly in a little plane like that! Old tractors like those are still in use in some places, as you say in smaller fields they are better than the modern monsters and so simple to fix as well.

@JudyEv When I lived in the US I found myself a few thousand miles away from the sea and so unable to participate in what was, until then, my main hobby of scuba-diving. So I decided to learn to fly instead, since there was an airport just a few miles away. I used to go out and borrow a plane and just fly around after work. Can hardly believe I actually did it now!

@JudyEv I'm OK as long as it's cool in the plane. We took a small plane ride when we were in North Carolina (I think). It was hot in the plane; and I felt terrible.
