I Before E, Except After C (Or a Few Beers)

The other day @JudyEv talked about a sign in her subdivision (or complex) that had a typo on it: two unit 93s! Ah, there’s no shortage of signs that need proofreading.
Take this one. Please.
This little bar is not too far from Churchill Downs here in Louisville. Their sign was created by someone who forgot their basic spelling mnemonic from the third grade.
I before E, except after C.
Maybe in this case, it’s “I before E, except after C or a few beers” (given that it’s a bar’s sign).
The funniest thing about this is that the other side of the sign has friendly spelled correctly.
So if it is a case of “a few beers,” at least we know which side of the sign was done first!
Tom T. Hall liked beer, it made him a jolly good fellow (but didn’t impact his spelling any

You know he took a break between painting one side and the other. I wonder if anyone ever pointed it out to the owner?

@DaddyEvil — I appreciate that. However, you do understand that they’re catering to (a)drinking (b)Kentuckians. Most of the clientele would look at the sign, if they can read it, and not see a problem.
(And yes, I really did just stereotype my hometown and my home state. I wanted to save you the trouble of having to do it.

While stereotypes do run through my mind at times, I try not to be guilty of actually putting ALL my thoughts into print on myLot.

That’s hilarious! My special ed students had difficulty spelling friend correctly. However, they learned quickly when I gave them some hints.
They took the first three letters from my favorite day (lol) and added end to it. Voila!
I was such a terrific teacher

That is cute. That is a word I often misspell.

"Eye" did not notice it right away until I did a double take! I guess after finishing the one side they took a break or three to quench their thirst

I hate seeing words spelled incorrectly. Especially on the news.

I'm a bit dyslexic so I make mistakes like that regularly. Thankfully I usually catch and correct them before I make a public fool of myself. (If you see any in my posts or comments feel free to point them out. The only thing worse than being corrected is spotting the mistake myself weeks after I've made it!!!)
