Hubby was feeling really down last night

When I came home last night hubby was feeling really down.I think one of his medicines is making him weak, plus he and I both have arthritis in our thumbs. He was not able to open things he wanted to open and just was miserable, and feeling old and useless. He did some thinking, and has decided he will write some submissions for one of his favorite magazines. . . but his hands hurt to hold a pencil or pen. We have a topical gel that should help his arthritis, but it has warnings on it that he wants to talk with the doctor about first. Tonight I realized that I have a massager that has infrared heat and I got him to use it on his hand. It really helped, at least enough for him to do some writing. I am pleased because it made him feel better both physically and mentally to get some relief for his hands.

It's good that you remembered about the infrared heat. Wearing gloves indoors might also help.

He will not do the gloves. We have some really nice wool flip back mittens, that leave your fingertips available to use,but he will not do that.

I am glad that the infrared heat helped. The pain in the hands must be horrible. Mom had arthritis and I noticed that my brother has the same problem.

I have the same problem and have for years, however, hot dishwater helps, and I use a nsaid gel, but he is not sure it is safe for him. He will ask the doctor.

@LadyDuck We seem to accumulate pains as we grow older.

He has a doctor's appointment and will discuss with her. Meanwhile I am cleaning up our diet a bit and adding some pain relieving spices and herbs.

We are going to make some dietary changes that should help. More home made treats fewer sale rack pastries. I remembered that I was taught that sugar causes joint pain. Also using a turmeric blend seasoning that I used to use. Both those changes will be good for me as well.

Now he has the device plugged in and he can use it multiple times a day. Infrared heat is supposed to be healing.

He might be having pain and frustration as he was not able to hold a pen, glad that you thought of massaging, that ultimately helped him.

That kind of pain, that doesn't subside when it flares up is a downer.

It really surprises him to have it. Also the fatigue. I believe one of his medicines is making him feel weak and tired.

I pray he'll feel stronger and encouraged. It's easy to feel down with health issues.

Thank you Vicki. Yes, he never planned to have health issues, thought he would always have lots of energy and strength.

The massagere was a really good idea. I wonder if those voice-to-computer gadgets would work for him. I'm sure they have a proper name but I don't know it.

Lots of software will do it, but he is not interested. He got some relief and is enjoying writing some of his stories and reminiscences. He needs a hobby that will get him out of the house.I had used the massager in the past. But I do not like to sit still to do it. My chiropractor had me use infrared light and heat in his office.
