Book Leaf Publishing Read-a-Thon

Due to me being an avid reader and most of my Facebook posts being about books and reading, this read-a-thon thing popped up in my feed. Book Leaf Publishing is doing this 21 days read a thon. You read for one hour a day for 21 days. In the end you get a Jane Austin Readers Award and if you're in the top 50, you get a small wooden book shelf of about 50 books. The only thing I don't really like is that there is a registration fee of $39. I guess it's not bad but I'm not a fan of paying to read. You already pay for the books that you read whether it be paperback, hardback or e-book. I was talking to one of my fellow firefighters about it and she was thinking about it as well. She just has to work around her schedule because she's so busy even though she loves to read like I do. I'm debating on if I want to do it or not. I have until the 18th to decide and come up with the money if I decide to do this. I haven't really talked to my husband about it yet so that is a conversation to have. I already read a lot so there may not be any harm in it. It seems that most everything has a registration fee anymore. Would you participate in something like this? *picture from google

That's quite a hefty sum for registration. Personally, I wouldn't pay unless I really like the book or the perks which come with it. However, it's totally up to you if you want to pay for the registration fee.

Everything has a registrations fee. Even the charities that have walks and stuff have a fee of no less than $35. It seems you can't get away from them anymore if you want to be a part of something. The only way I see this being worth it is if you end up in the top 50 and you get the bookcase of books. 50 books for $39 isn't bad lol.

@JordanLader I guess you are right. If you see it that way, then 50 books is really worth it.

@ihasaquestion lol it's something I'm still thinking about. I guess I see it that way because I've been on many charity sites looking at the fundraisers that they do and trying to get our fire department involved. There is a walk for the American Lung Cancer Association and not only is there a $35 registration fee but you are required to raise a minimum of $100 by the time you show up to walk. I get that they are a charity and need the donations but I don't think it's right to have the fee and then require the donation as well. The department couldn't do that because it was a per person requirement.
