Valentine's Weekend Gripe

Hi MyLot,
I admit that one of the many things I enjoy about this community is a place away from my other social media and the people who know me in real life. It's a place to vent about things that maybe I wouldn't in front of others.
Alright, so usually I have a gripe about this time of year. Ages ago I broke up with my first serious boyfriend days before the Valentine's holiday. Ever since, I have never had anyone special on that date.
As much as I would like to continue my gripe - I actually have a different one this year.
So once again I'm single on Valentine's Day which should be no big surprise to me I guess. I get to sit by and watch as married/coupled friends get flowers, candy, and out of town weekends. And I get a dead cat. Yup. You read that right. So, one of my side gigs , is that I pet sit. Thing is my friends also ask me to come watch their pets when they go out of town. These friends have helped me with things in the past, so I don't mind. This year one of their cats was sick. I knew this. The cat had stopped eating and honestly had looked pretty bad for awhile. I'm slightly surprised they didn't have the cat put to sleep. But I try to be respectful, people feel all differently about that. Anyway, I go to check on their cats and I find the sick one has passed. So I had to call them, handle moving the dead cat, feed the living cats... it made me sad the cat was passed away. And then it triggered the whole spiral into this way of thinking.... "well, MAYBE if I was EVER able to actually ATTRACT ANYONE *I* could have romantic out of town weekends instead of having to deal with a dead cat". It isn't the nicest way to think... but... there it is all the same.
Hope other people have had nicer Valentine's Day/Valentine's Weekend or "half Price Chocolate" day on 2/15 lol

Oh damn. So sorry you had to deal with that.
I personally would've put them down if they were that bad.. shame really

@FayeHazel of course. Have to be a monster to let them suffer. Imagine it being a child. Smh

@Courtlynn True. I totally agree. Though, My dad felt differently on the subject. While he had many problems and was fairly vicious, when it came to the pets he wasn't trying to be mean. His point was that perhaps they would make a turn around and get better... but I think that's what the vet is for ... they will say if the pet can get better or not

I agree with you. If the animal is suffering and nothing can be done I agree with having them put down, it seems to me to be the right thing to do.
Thanks for the kindness

I love myLot being my safe place as well.
Aww I’m sorry for the thought you had. I think upsetting things often. What a bad way to spend the holiday. I hope someday you have someone wonderful in your life to spoil you on a Valentine’s Day.

It's never easy to make the decision to put an animal down. The owners were doing what they felt was best for the animal, knowing it's better for it, if it passed at home. I am sure the owners of the cat are just as heartbroken. I know that's a call I would never want to get, and it couldn't have been an easy one to make.

@FayeHazel But you can't put your life on hold. And, I've known animals to hang around, and pass when the owner isn't around. Or, in the case of my late cat, Precious, made damn sure he was as close as humanily possible before he allowed himself to pass.

@kaylachan If your pet is dying you may want to rethink your traveling plans is what I'm trying to say. You may always go on your trip at a later time, thus no longer putting your life on hold. Of course - maybe they knew-but-didn't-think she was THAT bad, too.
All I know is what it felt like to me (which probably wasn't what was intended at all)
Therefor I post here, if I take it up with friends they likely not to understand

True... though I might be tempted to say that if they thought she was going to be passing then maybe stick around home. On the other hand maybe they didn't think she was that poor off. Sometimes I think certain people have a way of "not seeing" things or maybe for them it happens so gradual that they don't notice as much.
No, it was terrible for all parties, but.... had to be done . I know... the fact that this happens is the reason I don't want a pet. :/

@FayeHazel It is indeed. There are some things you can't really share with family and friends without sounding like a real grouch.

@JudyEv That is so true. Sometimes no matter how you explain Family and friends just don't get it or read meanings into it that you didn't mean

We've never celebrated Valentines day. Just remind yourself you're a very special woman and one of these days a super guy is going to realize that.
