A sweet note about my cousin with Azlheimers

I saw that I had a text from my cousin Julie in Virginia and for some reason before I read it, I was so afraid it was bad news about her sister Mary Lynn (my cousin who is my age.)
The last time Dale and I went to see Mary Lynn at the nursing home in Richmond, she really didn't know who I was. We had a nice visit, her two sisters and brother really take good care of her and visit her often.
But when I opened the text today, Julie said that recently Mary Lynn said, "How are Vicki and Dale?" Julie told her we're fine and have been married over 50 years now.
Mary Lynn replied, "That's good. I don't want them to think I've forgotten them."
It brought tears to my eyes. It was the sweetest thing. So thankful it wasn't sad news about her.
It's such a cruel and drawn out disease. Her mother was the only sibling who didn't have Alzheimers, but now Mary Lynn has it. My mother died from it, but so far I don't see signs of it.
I've always joked that if I ever get it, my memory has always been so bad that no one will even realize I have it!

That was Mary Lynn and I when we were young. My daddy was an amateur photographer, so he was always taking pictures of us kids. I always looked up to her, she was so pretty and cool.

I hope my husband doesn't get it, both his parents had it. Right now he seems fine. I'm happy to hear, that she hasn't completely forgotten you.

That just made my day that she remembered us for a few minutes. I pray your husband doesn't get that horrid disease. It really runs in my family, too.

@kaylachan When my mother was really showing the evidence of the disease, I asked her if she knew who I was. She thought for a minute and said, "Of course I do! You're the pretty one."
I never asked her that again, I just pretended she knew me.

I'm sure a few minutes later she wouldn't know me, but it just pleased me so much what she said.

With my memory being so terrible, nobody will ever even suspicion that I developed Alzheimers!

What a great photo. Anyway that is sad but sweet ... yes you're right a cruel illness for sure. I think keeping learning things, keeping active helps... and you certainly do those things
