We rang our son in Melbourne

We rang our son in Melbourne this morning. At least it was morning for us but, with daylight saving, it was three hours later for him.
He was busy getting ready for a barbecue for later today. It will be at a park. There is a play area for kids, and leashed and non-leashed dog areas so he seems to have all bases covered.
It is his 50th birthday. It seems odd to have a child that old. He isn’t married but will be getting together with friends in an outdoor area so hopefully he’ll be safe from picking up a COVID infection.
As you can see from the photo, he was very happy as a little boy. It's been over two years since we visited him.

Well at least he will be with friends on this day. It is hard to be away from your "children" no matter how old they might be.

@snowy22315 He could but he finds traveling a bit difficult - anxiety, etc. It's not exactly fun for us either sometimes 
but it's mostly easier if we go to him.

@oahuwriter There is terrible flooding in Queensland and it hasn't finished yet. There is dreadful devastation.

I know Ive been to rockingham but cant remember what it was like - think there was a mention of dolphins in the harbour but never saw any .

I keep forgetting that Australia is wide enough to have different time zones. Anyway, happy birthday to that confirmed bachelor of a son you have.

@JudyEv That puts it perspective. I guess I've been indoctrinated by those old schoolhouse maps where Australia is just a splotch in the bottom right-hand corner.

Thanks. Hopefully he had a good day. Melbourne is known for its four seasons in one day but it wasn't supposed to rain at the time.
