A generous repair man

My washing machine quit working last week. It's only two years old, so I called Jack's Appliance Repair. He's repaired appliances for us in the past and is very reliable. He returned my call and asked me several questions about what was going on with my washer. After explaining it to him, he said, "Before I come out there and charge you a hundred dollar service call, try doing this..." He told me several things to try and sure enough, it fixed the problem! I was so glad first of all that I didn't have to pay a hundred dollars and second that I didn't have to buy a new washer. He had every right to come out and charge me for it. It was so nice to know he was generous. I sent him a thank you note and $25 for saving me the inconvenience of being without a washer and the expense of buying a new one. Have you experienced generosity like that from a repair person?

That was very considerate of him, you must have given him alot of business over the years. Your thanking him as you did was such a nice touch.

He's about the only licensed repair man around here and he's always done good work.

It really warms your heart when someone does such a kind deed. I'm glad you were able to send him something for his trouble.

We see so much crime and evil that it's wonderful to know a kind person.

@1creekgirl Yes the heat works but when they installed the AC unit, because of the shoddy monkey hook ups to the electricity here (dangerous and unlicensed bums), they could not fire it up.

Your experiences with repair people have been horrible. Is your heat working now?

Good people still exist. I had a similar help in the past. I followed what the person suggested me to do and it worked.

Yes, we have. Spike Jones was the repair man we always called when something went wrong with the washer or dryer. He always fixed them or told us when it would cost less to buy a new machine. The last time I went shopping for a new washer/dryer, I called him and asked what type he recommended. He told me he's seen the least amount of trouble from Roper washer/dryers, so I thanked him and bought that brand. I sent him a check for $20 for the advice. (I figured he'd be the one to ask since he'd be the one I called to come fix them when/if they broke down.)

@1creekgirl The salesperson made Pretty and I mad. She insisted the "best" brand was Maytag. It was more expensive by $400 than the Roper brand. After we kept looking at the Roper pair, she ignored us but ran right up to the register to check us out. Then got mad when we told them we wanted someone else to check us out at the register. I called the company office after we got home and reported her behavior.

That certainly is nice to hear that he offered suggestions before coming out. Not too many people who would do that these days. Glad you were able to fix it and didn't need him or a new washer.

Yes recently a repairman who lives in Lake Charles who was contacted by my relatives via the local yellow pages came to repair a washing machine that quit working due to our home being old since it has around since the 1950s. The repairman did fix the washing machine by rebooting the machine inside the home and only charging my relatives $100 dollars instead of paying a repairman from Angie's List for $300 dollars to fix a young washing machine which was purchased a few months ago from Lowe's.

Yes, usually they are very helpful. They don't want to come out for minor problems. That was nice of you to send him some $ and a thank you note.
