Yesterday, and Mardi Gras

Yesterday (Tuesday) was Mardi Gras in Louisiana and I also worked at the boutique. It was a fairly busy day since most were off of work for the Mardi Gras holiday. We got a lot of stock put out and moved a lot of stock around. We pulled some booties and boots and moved to clearance to make way for new arrivals that were at temporary display by the checkout counter. The owners will be going to market in a couple of weeks, so we needed to get ready for more new arrivals. This was a good workout as we moved stock from all over the store from back to front, from front to middle and back to other end of building. My husband had a doctor appointment so he dropped me off and picked me back up. We decided to go to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner before heading home. I went straight to bed since I was very tired. Hope you had a good day. Do you have Mardi Gras in your area? It is mainly celebrated only here in the south. Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

I've heard of Mardi Gras, but wouldn't want to go to it. I don't like large crowds. Walmart always moved stock around to make people hunt for things they wanted in the hopes that as they searched, they'd find other things they "needed" to buy. I always hated learning the new placements for items customers needed most.

Yes, I hate those rearrangements! It is worse for the groceries! I used to make my shopping list by aisle and those rearrangements would mess up everything! Now I just order online and go pick up the order.

@kareng I wonder how much online ordering has made Walmart's sales drop? Edit to add: I just checked and Walmart online sales have boosted by 97% because of the pandemic while they made an extra $97 billion in sales. But they do trail behind sales at Amazon for the first time ever.

@DaddyEvil Their online grocery pick up has probably helped with the sales. Our store is always busy with that and you have to circle to get one of the reserved spots when you pick up. I get so annoyed with that. They doubled the spots but inside shoppers were parking there so they ended up taking the extras all out. I say call a tow truck and once they have been towed they will think twice about parking in designated spots for something else!

Yes, in Europe we celebrate Mardi Gras, it is the "Carnival" week, the last day is Mardi Gras, followed by Ash Wednesday (that is today).

That is something I didn't know! Yes, today was Ash Wednesday. Do they have parades there?

The only Mardi Gras celebrations we have around here are the ones happening in the bars! Another excuse for people to drink! lol I know a lot of the college students from the University of Florida will road trip to New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras. I did that a few times when I was a student at the university.

Have you ever been to the festivities in Alabama? I never have but I know they celebrate Mardi Gras. I want to catch one of the parades on the river one year. That's a bit different.

@kareng I never knew Alabama did any Mardi Gras festivities. Honestly, outside of New Orleans and bars/pubs, I didn't think anyone celebrated Mardi Gras.

@moffittjc Well, Mobile, AL used to be the capital of the territory and the first Mardi Gras festivities were held there. The first Mardi Gras parade was held in New Orleans many years later. So there is your history lesson for today!!

I'm glad you had a good, busy day at the shop. I'm not surprised you were tired and went straight to bed. No, we don't have Mardi Gras here.

It's not something that we have up here. I do know it's celebrated in Louisiana though.

I watched a little of the wild party on the live cameras from EarthCam on Bourbon Street. I posted a link to it on my Facebook wall and said it’s the one SAFE way to watch Mardi Gras. I’ve been in the French Quarter on New Year’s Eve, and that was enough insanity for me.

Yep, that is the safest way to celebrate Mardi Gras! We had a symposium in New Orleans one year when I was still working. I told my husband to take off and come down with me, but he refused. I had told him I wasn't planning on going out at night unless we went in a group. Of course the night we decided to do that was the night he couldn't reach me on the phone. He drove from Baton Rouge to New Orleans to make sure I was okay. Silly man!!
