Rebelann1949 (@rebelann) commented on my post about utes (utility vehicles) that she wished she had a 2014 Holden Commodore (VF). I wonder, Rebelann, if you’d like to pay $108,000 on the prototype of a 1979 Holden VH SL/E which sold on Saturday. It is the only one surviving of three prototypes. The model was released in 1981 and production on the model ceased in 1984.
The car was discovered under a tarpaulin in the Wimmera region of Victoria. The car has never been started, let alone driven and still had putty in the boot from where the shaping was hand-crafted. It seems it went to a South Australian TAFE (Technical and Further Education) and ended up with one of the teachers there.
At the same auction, a 1968 Holden HK Monaro fetched $330,000. Holden ceased production in 2017.

They stopped producing all cars in 2020 so this was one of the them.

What's so special about these cars? (I've not heard of them.)

The only Holden I ever knew anything about was William, the actor.
That’s amazing that someone would get a car, cover it up, and never use it. My dealership mechanic is shocked when he sees my odometer (right now I’m over 42,000 miles and the car won’t be two years old until May), and I tell him, “Hey, Jay Leno can buy cars and park ‘em in a garage. I can’t.”

I have always looked at vehicles as being nothing more than a means to get from point A to point B. No reason to spend mega amounts of money for something that I can buy much cheaper and still get the same results from.
How come Holden ceased production a few years ago?

@JudyEv It's hard to compete domestically when you're flooded with cheap imports from abroad. I hate seeing any company go out of business due to foreign competition, but I guess that's just the reality of the world we live in today.

@moffittjc It all sort of works until one country falls out with another then it all starts to unravel.

I'm with you. Cars are just a means of transport. I guess they ceased production because of the competition from cheap imports. It's a great shame. I think we should be manufacturing as much as possible here so we're not forever dependent on other countries for our goods.

Me either. I'd be thinking how many children would that amount feed.
