Something Different for Dinner Tonight

Tonight I decided to fix something different and actually something I have never fixed before. I whipped up a fried cabbage dish and it turned out really good. It is easy to prepare and doesn't require a lot of ingredients. I fried a few strips of bacon, chopped up a couple of inches of sausage, added seasoning and that was it. I admit that I forgot to add my chopped onion, but it was still very good. It was also pretty fast and also on the low side with calories. Have you ever heard of fried cabbage and/or fixed it? I have a similar dish that I make in the microwave - basically cabbage, onion and bacon. It's really nice.

I like the idea of cooking it in the microwave. I shall try this when I have some bacon in the house.

@kareng Is that cabbage in the picture or is it lettuce.I usually steam the cabbage to prevent destroying the nutrients.

Hot chili peppers!! Wowzers. I would have to pass on those with both of us with acid reflux.

@LadyDuck That is very understandable. My husband has to watch which vegetables he eats because he has colitis.

@kareng We have no acid reflux problems, but I usually avoid cabbage, it is too high in fiber and I suffer of IBS.

Yes. I even use cabbage in stir fry dishes. Pretty much something like you made but with celery, carrots, bell peppers and I never forget the onions lol

My hubby is not real fond of onions so he was happy. I love them. I'll have to try adding more next time!

Yes, I've made that several times lately. Pretty won't eat cabbage, so I get all I make. I've been freezing the leftovers to have another day.

@DaddyEvil True but being a leafy vegetable I figured it wouldn't freeze like lettuce, but it is denser. My hubby hates leftovers for the most part so I try not to cook too much.

@kareng Uhm... how do you think egg rolls are delivered to the stores? They're frozen... I don't like the same thing over and over again. I freeze leftovers so I can pick and choose to make sure my meals are always different.

It is since cabbage has so much liquid in it. The added flavors from the spices, sausage, and bacon really make it more appetizing.

I’m not a cabbage fan at all. It makes me gassy. My dinner last night was very simple. I wasn’t really hungry, so I just made some broccoli and mashed potatoes and nibbled on those.

@kareng I try to avoid cauliflower too, because of the same issue. I'll sometimes eat it in small quantities, but it does make me uncomfortable if I eat too much of it. I am a huge fan of mashed potatoes.

I first had fried cabbage at a mess hall in the Navy. I thought it was pretty good, and said I couldn’t wait to try it somewhere else where they can actually cook.

It turned out really good. I do admit that I liked it better than the hubby. He would like it more if it was loaded with meat. I used a smoked turkey sausage and just 6 slices of bacon and there was plenty of meat.
