Phone Call From My Cousin

Was headed outside after coffee earlier. The phone rang. My cousin called. Her daughter is diabetic and has a bad foot that will not heal, for many months now. She has been to wound care and had cats on for weeks. Nothing seems to help. They are talking possible surgery. I wish her the best. Many risks are involved. Her healing time could take longer due to her diabetes. But they should have a good outcome. Thoughts are with her. She will have to get someone to drive her to be with her daughter. Being blind can cause issues now and then. She does well all in all.

I hope they can heal the wound. I had an aunt with severe diabetes, this happened to her. Healing a leg or foot wound on a diabetic can be very difficult.

They have been trying for about a year now with no success. She is only in her early 50s.

@CarolDM A close friend of mine has a 90 year old diabetic mom. She had a bad sore on her leg that was there for nearly a year, too. They finally ended up at a wound specialist and it's healed. Very tender and they guard it carefully to keep it from getting bumped, but it did finally heal.

All of my father’s siblings are diabetic. Three had already passed away. I’m being careful with my health because it runs in our genes.

Blindness is another result of diabetes, maybe your cousin has it also. Diane, a lady I know, had the same problem and some of her toes were removed.

Her daughter has diabetes, not my cousin. She had other reasons for her blindness.

@CarolDM I'm sorry that her daughter is suffering, with unhealed feet:( With diabetes, healing is a very slow process!

@CarolDM l hope everything works out okay for her. When there is an early diagnosis - the recommended diet and treatment could begin and prevent what is happening now.

@Kandae11 She donated a kidney a few years ago and has since developed diabetes. Such a shame. I hope it works out for her too.

People don't realise diabetes can be very dangerous. People start off losing toes but next thing it's a foot or a leg.
