Finding country performers on postage stamps is a hard thing. The legends who’ve been on stamps are Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff, Jimmie Rodgers, and the Carter Family. Oh, and Elvis if you count him.
On April 8 the Postal Service will issue a stamp to honor Shel Silverstein, adding him to the list.
Asterisk.
The postage stamp is paying tribute to his legendary children’s book, The Giving Tree.
There’s nary a mention of his songs “Tequila Shelia” or “Quaaludes Again.” 
YES, the man who wrote The Giving Tree also wrote a song called “Quaaludes Again.” And a lot of other weird things.
So why not show you some of Silverstein’s work as a songwriter?
You may be amazed to find some of the things he wrote. We’ll see!

Always liked the unicorn song.
But as for Sheila passing the tequilla... Canadian politician John Crosbie got a lot of flack citing that phrase...

I did not know that he wrote songs, but it doesn't surprise me. He was a favourite around here when my kids were younger. Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout is one poem that comes to mind at the moment.

@FourWalls Hmmmm, I might not shock as easily as some people think. I always appreciated the fact that Shel Silverstein clearly had a non-linear sense of humour!
