Day 273
Ezekiel 22:29 “The people of the land have used oppressions, committed robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy; and they wrongfully oppress the stranger.
30 “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.
31 “Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord GOD. (NKJV)
People believe they can do whatever they want because they have rights. They don’t care that their ‘rights’ hurt someone else.
God spoke with Ezekiel about all the abominations Israel did against Him. He told him to prophesy to the people about their shame and neglect of the covenant between them and God. Yet, they didn’t pay attention to Ezekiel but went ahead with their plans, even in exile, where they deluded themselves that they wouldn’t be in the land as long as the prophets said they would. They made their own prophets and listened to their lies instead of to God.
God told Ezekiel He looked for someone who would stand in the gap, pray for the land so He wouldn’t destroy it, but found no one to pray for the land. God had no choice but to destroy His people as He promised.
As Christians, you think you have rights according to God’s Word, but don’t consider what those rights entail. You make it up as you go along. While you call yourself a Christian, your Bible remains closed. You listen to people who call themselves Christians, people you think have all the answers, yet you don’t open your Bibles to find the truth. You don’t pray. You don’t seek God’s face about your circumstance. You rely on someone else’s advice.
Isn’t that the same as what Israel did when God sent them into exile? They listened to everyone except God and His prophets. They preferred to believe the lie.
Open your Bibles. Read. Study. Pray. Look around you. Observe the times and seasons and stand in the gap for the land, the people, your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers. Know the truth. Seek God’s face and He will find you.
Let’s pray: Father, help me stand in the gap for Your people who strayed from Your presence. Help me show them the truth found in Your Word so You can set them free from the lies they believed. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
