Finder’s Keepers?

I took a taxi a few days ago and look what I found inside (photo above). I didn’t know what to do but common sense guided me. I took a picture of the smartphone, front and back, told the driver about it and gave the device to him. I know the owner would trace the taxi itself. Maybe he/she got a receipt or something with the taxi driver’s details? Just in case, I also took a picture of the taxi’s plate number when I got out. I hope the owner would get the device back. What did you do when you found something on the train/taxi?

@sol_cee - I know many policemen here, they are very good people. I did not like police stations in Italy and I know they would have kept the phone there.

I was in Burger king one day, ordered my stuff and went to sit at a table. There on the table was a cell phone. I didn't pick it up , but waited to see if the owner would show up . Half an hour later l took it to a supervisor and left. I hope the owner remembered where he or she left it and came back for it.

Half an hour later and the owner didn't come back? I left mine in a restaurant and minutes after we exited the establishment, I immediately noticed I didn't have my cellphone with me so I went back in a hurry

@sol_cee It happened to me too - in that same establishment. I forgot my phone there and did not realize it was missing until 45 minutes later. I hurried back , checked with the cashier and thankfully l got it back. Some honest person had turned it in.

I've never taken the train/taxi . I hope that person gets their phone back too - you did right to do what you could. I stupidly lost my current phone at least a couple times . . . both times I called my number and luckily both times a person picked up to tell me they have my phone.

I've never been in a taxi and the only train I've been on was in an amusement park. *shrug* I hope the taxi driver is an honest person.

Once, I went to the traditional market and I stopped at a vegetable stand to buy things there. When I waited the seller to pack my vegetables, I noticed a motorcycle key undet the stand. Then, I asked to other buyers who owned the key, but no one owned it. So, I just inform the seller and give it to him. After around 5 minutes, the owner of the key came back to the stand, and I told the owner that the key is at the seller.

Hopefully, the taxi driver would be honest enough to find the courage to find the owner of the cp. It is quite tempting to pocket it especially if you can open and tinker with the phone.

I hope so. I feel happy whenever I read something on FB about honest people returning things they found on the street/taxi/bus/toilet

Thank you for doing what you could to return the property to its rightful owner. I don't know what the law is where you are, but here in the US, someone who finds property assumes legal responsibility to make a good faith effort to return said property to the owner. This is usually done by turning it in to law enforcement and getting a receipt for it if there is no way to identify the owner by looking at or in the item itself.

I found a phone one time at a park. I didn't know where to turn it in so since it didn't have a screen lock, I used the phone to send a text message to the last person they sent a text to. I added my phone number in the text along with a message that I found the phone. Before I left the park, the owner came by and picked up the phone. If it were a train or taxi, I'd still send a message if I could before turning it over to the driver or a person in charge.
