Shows With The Most Effective Influence For Popularity?

United States

Back in the day, with music, if you made it on The Ed Sullivan Show, you had a great chance to really make it big, much like "The Tonight Show" helped comedians, especially if he invited them on the couch. What's the most influential thing now? Podcasts is a new thing, but to get on someone popular like Joe Rogan, you have to be popular somewhat already, and on the times I browse, I hardly ever see musicians, and if I do, they're older and already established. But what about Film? Doesn't have to be a traditional show.. Seems like the "Kingmaker" is spread out, but might be a confederation?

I still remember watching Elvis at the Ed Sullivan show. They did not show the lower part of his body while he was singing

Wow, so lucky! I hope you saw some great concerts and movies in the theater! I wasn't born until the 80s :(

@PinkFloydFan I did. Although mostly my father invited me to classical music concerts that I also enjoyed. But now, with YouTube, you can watch all of those old shows.

@marguicha Cool! I think 99% of the things I watch are on Youtube! I never watch anything else now that I think about it.

Now a days it's hard to say, really. Social media and the fact anyone can post a video has changed how much and how we view things in the media industry.

@PinkFloydFan Yep. That's the direction our world's gone into, due to the raise in popularity of social media. Sure, it has it's place, but it ruins lives, too. People can be denied jobs or lose their spot, because of a post. Sad, really.

@kaylachan I completely agree. It's also dehumanizing. Since most of our talk is NOT face-to-face, people are easier to dehumanize someone else when all they see is a screen. And about controversy to get attention, I NEVER heard them (or the media, etc) ever talk about the movie! I was just listening to something from 1975, partly to talk about the movie "A Woman Under The Influence" (which is on YouTube!), but movie-making, and John Cassavetes (and his wife Gena Rowlands) had some amazing things to say about movie-making in general, too. They made such a great team, he being a great director/actor, and she being my favorite actress, and shows what I think is the best performance by anyone on the screen in that movie, but there's no gossip at all.. It's profound. No trivia.

I was hoping some talented artists (without much money) would upload a full movie onto YouTube. Still haven't found any good ones, although YouTube has a ton of great movies, such as -They Shoot Horses, Don't They? -The Battle of Algiers -A Woman Under The Influence -Mikey and Nicky -The Incident -Minnie And Moskowitz -Payday

@PinkFloydFan Ah! I don't know! It might actually ruin his career! Sorry, just joking. I like Jonathon Ross really!

I've only been to England once, but if a comedian (or whoever) went on Jonathon Ross, would it help his career?
