It was a dark and stormy night. . .

I was going to write about the hand specialist, but the power went out at about 5:30 p.m. It was back on quickly, but not the internet.
The hand clinic prides itself on staying on schedule. We actually were a little early, because we plan that way for a new doctor.
Part of the interstate was closed, so it turned into an adventure to get there for our first time.
What it boils down to is that there were 14 x-rays taken of my wrists and elbows. Not really of use diagnosing carpal tunnel, but useful to rule out any breaks, arthritis, etc. Doc. wondered why they did such limited nerve conduction on just my right arm. What he can tell is that on that right arm I have probably one of the worst levels of carpal tunnel, plus an ulnar compression. Yes, arthritis in my thumbs.
He seems to have a really conservative approach, and at this appointment I was instructed in a different way to use my topical pain relief cream. He says "like a professional athlete" apply first thing in the morning, and after lunch--to heat it up in the daytime. Do not use it at bed time.Let it cool down.
I will go back during Easter break to see if that is improving matters.
So that is all I know for now.
Good Wednesday morning to all.

What is the most popular treatment for carpal tunnel? Is it surgery? I’ve always wondered how they treat it.
Sorry to hear you’re dealing with that pain. Hopeful you can find long-term relief.

@moffittjc I asked one of the technicians back then to tell me what they were going to do. He told me the doctor was going to open my wrist up and release a restriction pressing on the nerve bundle in my wrist.
It looks like it's still done the same way now. Look at this:

Twenty years ago it was carpal tunnel surgery. The doctors did that on my right wrist. I barely have any scars left from the surgery. If someone looks closely, they can still see the tiny scars from the stitches holding the wound together but that's it. The actual cut for the surgery was done in the line from my wrist into my palm and blends right in.

@DaddyEvil I wonder how much the technology has improved since you had your surgery? Like I wonder if it can be treated with lasers or something now, or at least a less-invasive surgery than what was done in the past.

The biggest problem is that it disturbs my sleep, which makes other things more of a problem.

@GardenGerty lack of sleep is an awful feeling in itself. Makes my depression and anxiety worse.

I hope this altered way of using the pain relief cream works wonders for you.
Have you been enjoying the storms, otherwise? Thunder and lightning all night last night. It's been fun!

I knew I had carpal tunnel problems. The ulnar compression is a new thing to me. I also believe that there is a problem in my right shoulder blade. I do not believe that is in this doctor's specialty.
