Fire ants: Satan's finest creation

Last night I had a load of clothes in the washer when I realized we didn't have any water. We have a well, so Dale went out to check on it. Guess what he found.
Fire ants!!! They had crawled around the pump to get warm and destroyed something in there. Hundreds, maybe thousands of them. If you know fire ants, you know you'd best not get near them.
Dale poured some ant killer and today many of them are dead. But he still has to repair/replace the pump and tank while avoiding the rest of the killer ants.
My cousin stopped by and they're working on it. It's a pain not to have water, isn't it?
I've got a beef roast, mashed potatoes, and baked beans ready and on hold until he can come in for dinner, then I'll bake the biscuits.
Have you had your mid day meal yet? Was it something yummy?

I am not aware about fire ants. But they sound too dangerous. Were they the cause of the damaged pipe? What's the way to keep them away??

Yes, they destroyed our water pump. There's no way to keep them away, we just have to try to kill enough to keep them from spreading everywhere. When they bite you, it leaves a hard center and burns and itches like crazy. Then it usually leaves a scar.

@1creekgirl Oh! They sound like a big nuisance
. Hopefully your water is back. It's frustrating to be without water.

@1creekgirl I mowed a fire ant hill once and they swarmed over my shoes and started biting me through my socks. I swatted and smacked and finally hosed them off but not before they'd given me a dozen or so welts.

That's the truth. It's too easy to spread them if you accidentally mow over them.

There's no way to completely get rid of fire ants, it's just an ongoing battle in warm weather.

@Ronrybs They really are terrible. And it costs so much to buy the powder to keep them semi under control.

I've gotten stung by them before. I'm aware how not fun that is.

Dale got bit a few times today, but he's okay. I'd be still hurting.

Ooo, that breakfast was yummy I'm sure. They got everything fixed, so it's wonderful to have running water again.

I hear the fire ants are working their way north. I hope it's too cold for them up here in Ohio. It's definitely a pain to be without water. We had Meals on Wheels - Beef stew (the worst meal that they make), mixed veggies, roll, grape juice and pears.

The grape juice sounds good, though lol. Sure hope y'all never get those evil ants.
