Stealing Bees?

Last year about 600 beehives were stolen in the Northern California area. This is where almonds trees are located and this means a possible loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The thieves can then rent or sell outright these hives. Thirty percent of all food we eat here in the U.S. is pollinated by bees. Even the meat availability is contingent on bee pollination because the alfalfa cows eat has to be pollinated. The food industry that has lost beehives due to thievery usually has a mark on the bottom of the beehive but this is not always the case. They are thinking of using invisible ink, GPS trackers, and even video cameras in the future.
