Trying to Get My Side Hustle(s) Going

For anyone who is not familiar with the terms - in American slang, "hustle" doesn't just mean "hurry" or a dance from the 70s; it also refers to making money. It originally meant making money in an illegal or at least kind of shady way, but now it usually refers to working hard to make money. I think it re-combined the meaning of "hurry" with the meaning of doing something to make money. Anyway, a "side hustle" refers to a way of making money on the side if you already have a "real" job.
It's usually money you make for yourself, independently, like writing for MyLot. If you have a regular job but you write for MyLot to make a little extra money, then that's your "side hustle".
I actually have quite a few things going on the side, so I will talk about them when I get a chance to post. It mostly involves my artwork, and also some writing.
The picture you see is a small black and white painting that I did in college of my bedroom (it's dark outside, and my pillow is reflected in the window). Hope you like it!

I think your artwork is amazing; and I think you should consider illustrating for books. I need an illustrator for my children's book; but the cost is too prohibitive. Good luck.

I used to think that was right up my alley, but I came to realize that I am so lax about things, I would miss deadlines left and right!

@LindaOHio you might try this website called It's free to use (there's a paid version if you want more bells and whistles, but the basic one is pretty decent). Canva is a website that provides templates and spot illustrations and stock image photos that you can use for layouts. You might be able to produce your own illustrations by using these!

Thanks! It was a study for a larger piece in full color that came out okay, but I really like this one. Something about working with a white medium on a black surface instead of the other way around just gives it a deeper feel.

Seems like it's becoming more and more necessary these days to have several things going on.

Well, you certainly covered all the slang and double meanings for the word "hustle." Good luck with those side hustles

Side hustles are always a good thing, especially if one is particularly good at something they can capitalize on. My biggest side hustle (but I don't really actually think of it as one) is the stock market. It's where I have made most of my fortunes. But having multiple streams of income anyway is always a good idea, and sometimes the side hustle turns into a whole new career.

Yes, I think that's the American dream, is to capitalize on something you really enjoy doing and make it profitable. For a lot of people, that means having to do something on the side while holding a full-tie job for the stable income.

@AliCanary As the saying goes, never stop dreaming and never stop doing things to achieve the dream. But in the meantime, you have to eat.
