1)We have a salon on the premises and Nora, who owns it, comes and opens it 3-4 days depending on appointments. I stopped by and she said she had an opening at 12:45 so I took it! She is good and will even trims my beard without my asking--all for $15 and, of course, tip! I get a crew cut 3 times a year :O) Inline image 2) The Saturday Evening Post was first published in 1897 and I remember it being a staple in homes and on every newsstand---are there still newsstands?--in the 1940s and 1950s. It sort of faded out just as Life magazines among others did recently and I don't recall seeing one for many years though every once in awhile the paintings they published by Norman Rockwell were either on the Internet or a reminiscing of a certain time/period in newspapers (which are now disappearing in print) and other magazines. In December, with tons of other ads, I received a mailing from the Saturday Evening Post regarding a year's subscription for $10 and I couldn't resist! Hey, they also included a 2022 calendar with 14 reproductions of Rockwell's paintings of which many are classics today. I received my first issue and immediately was taken with an article: https://www.saturdayeveningpost.com/2022/01/its-time-we-fixed-our-hospitals/ that discussed what was wrong with hospitals today (a lot!) including doctors and huge pharmaceutical companies (major problems) that was worth more than the $10 I paid for a year's worth of articles. There were, also, many very readable and worthwhile articles about other subjects not to forget the illustrations all through the magazine. One of the many smart things I have done this year---so far! PS I am tempted to go back to the antibiotic I was taking in January, February and some of March! I was eating whatever I want (which is a lot!) and losing weight but I was having a lot of side effects, including scheduling the 2 pills, so I had the meds changed to one, that so far I am having only ONE side effect: my weight is going up as fast as I eat!!! ARGH!

We used to get the Saturday Evening Post years ago. I didn’t know it was still in existence. Glad you got your meds straightened out. Take care of yourself.

@GreatMartin Your doctors should be looking out for you. Maybe you need to change doctors.

I think some stores still have them, but the ones that used to be outside, that you often stuck coins in, seem to be a thing of the past.

Lookin' good, GreatMartin ! I know Rockwell illustrations, but I don't know a whole lot about the magazine itself. $10 sounds like an excellent deal - a small investment for good readings .

@GreatMartin I used to be in the printing industry. My boss told me he bought that business because everyone needs printing and it will always be around. Boy was he ever wrong. Right - digital subscriptions is the thing now. My parents just cancelled their LA Time subscription because it costs way too much for home delivered papers now - not worth it.

@much2say After 40 years I canceled my Sun-Sentinel print paper---one reason is that they couldn't get 'delivery boys' so I wasn't getting my paper half the time!

It was in every home in the USA at one time but, like many magazines and/or newspapers they hit bad times and couldn't afford to get even what printing cost so now they are published like every other month! And depend on digital subscriptions!

Looking good, Martin!!!! My brother loves Norman Rockwell’s work. As for what’s wrong with hospitals, it’s pretty simple: if you look at your bill, you’ll see that they “charge” you $200 for an office visit. They get a $20 copay from you, $50 from the insurance company, and write the rest off. If they’re going to accept $70 for the service, then that’s what they should be charging instead of some astronomical inflated price that no one but the poor who can’t afford insurance (nor a $200 office call) will be saddled with.

That's the fault of the government and insurance companies---in order to get their fee they have to overcharge because Medicare/Medicaid won't pay what the insurance company charges normally!
