Thunder & Lightning Brings Fire

Woke up to heavy rain, thunder and lightning this morning. Then I heard sirens through the neighborhood, almost immediately after a loud clap of thunder.
Three firetrucks are now at my neighbor's home, on the next street over. I hope things are ok, I cannot get over to check right now, too many emergency vehicles.
These things can happen so fast. Thunder shook the house and I knew the lightning struck pretty close. The electricity flickered here but never went off.
Hoping for the best in this situation. Weather can be so unpredictable.

That happened here yesterday. We didn't go out to see what got struck by lightning but the loud BOOM and the flickering lights made me yell and jump enough that I woke Pretty up, too.
I hope not too much damage was done at either place, yours or ours.

@CarolDM You're welcome. I don't like to be outside when thunder and lightning are happening. I enjoy watching through a window, though.

Oh, I hope your neighbors are okay.
I never like seeing fire trucks around. And I agree with you, lightning is scary. (You know something interesting: lightning has killed, on average, 40 people a year, but people ignore it as a danger. I guess because it’s not as “sexy” as a tornado, flood, or hurricane.)

@CarolDM — oh, that’s scary. Fire experts say a lightning strike can cause “smoldering” in the ceiling or walls for hours before it bursts into flames. I would imagine the fire department checked, though (they have these cool devices that can measure heat through a wall to see if there is any smoldering going on).

That is so early. I think that can happen to us in the afternoon or night but not in the morning

We had a huge fire in the Everglades---Fortunately, after a couple of days, we had a massive, heavy rainfall for an hour that got it under control!

I have been afraid of the loud thunder and lightning that we get here ever since a couple of years ago the house got struck and we lost our Internet for three weeks, The connection box literally exploded,
