Wolves Get A Bad Wrap

Wolves are one of my favorite animals. I feel they get a bad wrap. In the early days of this country people who came from other countries were afraid of wolves due to the myths and fairytales their countries told about them(Little Red Riding Hood for example). And, cattlemen hated them for killing their stock. So thousands were killed. Now they have electric fences and men on horseback to keep them out of areas where cattle or other animals are. Wolves are important to our ecosystem. They keep the elk and deer populations in check and this benefits other animals and plants. I worked for the wolf recovery here in Idaho back in early about 2010. Went to many rallies and fundraisers where they would bring a wolf out on the stage and it would walk down through the audience. They are formidable animals. The wolf population is up to 6,000 in this area now and has been delisted(taken off the endangered list) since 2011.

It's good that wolves seem to no longer be endangered. At least something good is coming out of it.

Yes, but the cattlemen still want to kill them. They fly over and shoot them. It's awful.

@BarBaraPrz ......When they are killing the rancher's livelihood I guess they feel justified in doing this. I find it appalling.

Most people are afraid of wolves and will kill them if possible.

Their first instinct is to kill them.

I have always loved wolves. I supported Brigitte Bardot in France when she fought to save the wolves.

Wow, that is a lot of wolves in your area. I don't think they are endangered in Alberta. Ranchers don't like them, but we have a lot of unpopulated area here, so plenty of room for wolves there.

Wolves are amazing and beautiful animals. We were supposed to go to a wolf encounter last summer; but we never made it down to Florida. You get to meet several wolves face-to-face.
