I started watching Insatiable on Netflix a couple of days ago and yesterday I was surprised when Gloria Diaz appeared in one of the episodes! And how I love her character!
I have always known Gloria Diaz from the time I started watching tv. And I've always known her to be a Miss Universe Queen, the pride of the country. She was crowned in 1969 and she became an actress.
Her character name in the show is Gloria Reyes, one of the judges in the regionals beauty pageant, a former Miss Philippines and Miss Universe! A fierce one too!
She is a real beautify queen!

Yes. She wasn't even close to being beautiful. But she won the crown nevertheless for being smart. And that's what I admire most about her.

So am I. That's why I don't watch beauty pageants. But my country gives too much importance to Miss Universe. So when a Filipino wins, it is such a big news that everybody in this country, even those in remote areas know about it. And you'll see and hear their faces anywhere and everywhere in this country.

@toniganzon It used to be the same here but that was years ago. I don’t remember the last time I saw or heard of a beauty pageant.

@RubyHawk I couldn't even remember the last time Miss USA made it to top ten in the Miss Universe. India, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil and my country are those who are usually in the top ten.
What I like about Miss Universe is that it's not based on just mere appearance. Brains matter above all. That's why Gloria Diaz won. She was not beautiful compared to the other contestants but she aced the interview portion.

Sushmita Sen is very famous because she won her crown in our country. And we truly admired her back then coz she was a really smart woman!
