"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" was written by Michael Jackson and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones and released in 1982.
The song is about rumors being spread by strangers to start an argument for no good reason. It was originally written for La Toya, Michael's sister; and it was referencing her troublesome relationship with her sister-in-law. The song was not accompanied by a music video.
The song hit #5, #6 and #8 on the US charts and was #1 in the Netherlands and Canada.
