Yes, indeed, more x rays today. On my shoulders and cervical spine, my neck. I am getting myself all transparent here at the hand doctor's. I told him I believed my issues were more than carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel and arthritis in the base of my thumb. Nothing in my films screams for major surgical interventions.I am going to do some of the things he suggests, and give it some time and let it rest. He dictated his notes while we talked and among other things he said some of what he saw was consistent with age.. The pain he looked into today has been going on for over twenty five years. I napped this afternoon. So did hubby. I have all my lunches packed for the rest of the week. I am going to bed early tonight.

Age. Hmm, that's what my doctor told me when she said I've siatica. Buy a cane, which I did, that made riding the bus easier. I researched it and found white willow bark for my siatica. It worked. Doctor also gave me stretchy excercies to do daily, which I do. I found out about, glucosamine chondroitin, it works too. Maybe you can discuss these with your doctor, and I hope, you be comfortable and better. Our bodies get depleted of nutrients, so supplements helps.

I would be suggested some braces for my wrists if what we are attempting does not improve things. White willow bark has salycilic acid, which is what is in aspirin.Last year I had sciatica problems and was given exercises which do help. I tried glucosamine and chondroitin years ago and other supplements. I take several supplements, though. I hope your sciatica continues to improve.

@oahuwriter Stretching helped my hip and leg. Hand doctor has me doing a self massage with a tennis ball on my shoulder. I roll it around against the wall. Very easy to do and to stick with it.

@GardenGerty I see. My siatica gone. Thanks. You know what, I lost an inch, after 50. My doctor got me doing streching excercies. It helps. I hope we both improve over time, and no more pain & suffering.

I hope that after a good rest you will see some changes. With the warm weather perhaps that will help.

Sorry that you have all those pains, sometimes I get upset with the docs who don't seem to know much.

Much of what goes on with me pain wise is actually associated with work or as my primary reminds me, also stress.

My doctor told Pretty and I that some of the back, leg and foot pain I've been complaining about were age related. I told her calling me old isn't nice. She shrugged and told me if I can make myself young again, she'd help me sell whatever it was...

So how old are you? My back, leg, and foot pain have to do with the types of work I do and also the kind of shoes I choose.Stretches help.

@GardenGerty I'm 58 and have spent my working life walking on uncushioned concrete floors. Concrete floors do their own kind of damage to foot, let and back muscles.

@DaddyEvil PT said that was part of my problem with my leg last year. Of course schools are build on concrete bases and they are not resilient at all even with carpet. PT cited concrete floors, riding buses and sitting in small children's plastic chairs as being bad for me. Of course that is a description of my job in a nutshell. Not to mention moving, transferring and diapering a handicapped child that is getting close to 50 lbs.

They actually do. One thing is how I am using topical pain relief. I am more on a schedule and doing it when it is the most helpful. This week he gave me a tennis ball to do a shoulder massage with and it seems to help rather quickly. I am hopeful. I am pretty sure I should quit working the type of job I have as well.

It’s good that your doctor didn’t find anything major but sad that he doesn’t know how to fix your problems. I’m so sorry.

Oh, we have things he has asked me to do and they seem to help. He says I could be a good candidate for surgery, but you know, that would be my last resort.

@GardenGerty I understand. I’ve had several surgeries and I’ve said I don’t intend to have another but we can’t be sure until the time comes.

Doctors like easy answers like it must be age. Keeps them from having to think very hard.

In this case, being appropriate for age is better than having an injury that has been neglected. This doctor is starting conservatively, giving me things to try that seem to be helping. He listened when I said that something is wrong and took x rays to see what he could learn. Gave me exercise that is helping.

The pain is most of the time bearable. My lunches are just food from home, a main dish and vegetable put in a dish to reheat.
