Where's the mailed envelope?

I mailed out an envelope for my mom that had a check inside with a payment for something. I did it on April 11th from what I remember. The check has not been cashed yet so I called the place that should receive the payment and asked them if they received it. The lady checked and said there is no record of it. The last payment was made in 2020.
Both my mom and the place she had to pay are located in the same borough in NYC. It should not take that long for the envelope to get to the recipient. I have a feeling that maybe the envelope got lost somehow or been misplaced.
I tried calling my local post office (found the # online) many times to inquire about a possible missing envelope and see if they can locate it, though it will be harder to do since there is no tracking #. No one ever picked up the damn phone.
And then I tried calling USPS. There doesn't seem to be an option to talk to a representative. And nothing the automated machine says seems to apply to me. So that's a dead end.
I don't know what to do. Perhaps I should actually go to the post office and see if there is anything they can do to try and locate the envelope. I don't get why no one is picking up the phone though. Unless the number I found online is incorrect.

I am gonna call today and find out if perhaps the envelope came but I am not holding my breath. Thing is they told me they will waive the late fee (when I called them) if I pay right away and so I sent out the check that day. Now it's almost two weeks past the due date. Wonder if we end up having to write a new check if they will still waive that late fee. It's $70.

@lovebuglena Terrible I hope it gets resolved..next time before you send a check..maybe get the mail certified so you at least have a receipt to show them it was mailed whoever you are sending it too.

@RebeccasFarm A few days before sending out this check we mailed out a check to another place (check for a lot more money) and it made it to its destination and was already cashed. And it was sent outside NYC but in NYS. Weird that this one didn't get to the place yet.

It's a real pain, but it's best to do this in-person. I've been to my local post office for things like this, and rarely can they be bothered to answer the phone.

It's a very long walk to the post office.

@lovebuglena I said, a pain. We have to drive to ours.

@kaylachan I have to walk or take a bus to mine. If I miss the bus I am better off walking as I'd have to wait half an hour for the next one, assuming it leaves right under my nose. Walking from my house to the post office will probably be around 50 minutes, if not more. Depending on how fast I walk.

This is a worry. Can your mother cancel the cheque and then write another?

She can probably do that. Maybe I will call the place again and see if they've received anything. Perhaps they got it but the envelope was misplaced there somewhere.

I hope the mystery is solved. You might want to call another post office and check the number.

Maybe they just don't wanna pick up the phone. I was gonna go to the post office today but then changed my mind. It closes at 1 pm and I'd have to rush to get there. If hubby was home I'd ask him to drive me but he is at work.
