I have a new project

I wrote about crocheting beanies for underprivileged children. The group I’m helping want to fill 60 shoeboxes with various odds and ends for children. They now have enough beanies as others have been making them too. So now I have a new project – finger puppets. The one in the photo was not made by me. It is knitted but I’ve brought it home so I can take the size from it. I’ve made one that looks quite good but the hardest part is trying to sew eyes, nose and mouth so they look somewhat okay. Mine always look a bit like weird zombies but perhaps I can prevail on one of the other ladies to put the finishing touches to them. I took the photo but I didn’t make the finger puppet.

I have a hard time with faces too. I seen where people were crocheting the eyes seperate and then adding. Might be something to think about.

All the packages contain some sort of toy along with other items.

Cute idea and it sounds like something that would be fun to make I'm sure you'll get the hang of the face quickly.

That's what I'm hoping. Someone might find it really easy but I find it difficult.

@JudyEv It's always good to find someone to collaborate with like that. Did you find someone who likes doing the faces?

@FayeHazel I haven't been back again yet. I'm looking for some lighter-coloured wool now to make the faces.

There was/is a myLotter (male) who had a Etsy shop and sold a lot of knitted goods. There might be more male knitters and crocheters than you imagine.

@58lordstreet It's a shame people judge so easily. A sailor friend told us he used to knit while locked in his cabin. He was making a scarf but he didn't know how to cast off. He said when they eventually got to port he had a very long scarf!

@JudyEv I gave it up when people thought it was odd, so no idea how to do it now

I don't like fiddly bits and pieces. I have worked out how to crochet the whole body in one piece so I won't have too many ends to sew in.

This looks cute, I am not very good in crocheting, it should not be very difficult to make.

So far they are taking me longer than a beanie but I'll get quicker as I get more used to the pattern.

Those would be cute. You could maybe just glue eyes on them also.

@JudyEv That would depend on the age of the kids getting them.

I did think of that so I'll ask. Maybe they could come off too easily and be a hazard.

They will be just one item in a box full of stuff so hopefully they'll be plased with their gifts. There is usually soap, washer, tooth brush, comb. Maybe hair ties, marbles, stuffed toy, beanie, bracelet.
